Distinguished Colleagues,

Must admit to the beginnings of a cold chill that's developing along my spine as I approach the 22nd October. This is the day my Puma factory warranty expires.

Although I have an extended Allianze warranty, I do feel like I'm about to plunge into unchartered waters.

My vehicle is going OK at the moment - but after 3 years of ownership, the vehicle hardly inspires confidence.

So - wish me luck. If my Puma continues it's behavior of the first 3 years, it's going to turn into a Jeep. :p

Good luck Scallops!!! Hopefully all the issues have been sorted during the warranty, I mean "shake down", period :)

Cheers,

Tim

(PS, at least you haven't been stupid enough to buy another one  )

you obviously have not been reading any jeep forums... :D

the Allianze warranty insurance story makes for a bit of an interesting read as well i am finding.

to their credit i have read several stories about them having a shot at dealers for shonky behavior.

hope your expedience is a good one....

as an aside, lots of my reading has been about light - mid duty euro spec diesels in various brands and the trend that stands out to me is that if they are not worked they will play up much earlier than they would if worked.

Yeah - but I have - I am a sick puppy.

There are 2 distinct Allianze policies, as I understand it - I have the original older one which provides, according to their own statement in the policy document .... coverage for everything the original manufacturer's warranty would provide for...

In my favor, as everything bar the windscreen has been changed under the original warranty, I should be OK! :D

Do mean if they are Chipped etc... they are having better luck with their reliability?

Dave,

If that logic is applied then in reality it is a Tata. :p;)

I did a double take whilst doing an inspection under the "Land Rover" when I saw "FoMoCo" stamped on the plastic cover of the underside of the battery box. At least BMW didn't have the affrontery to do that when it owned LR.

Dan,

You deserve a medal (probably a St Christopher).

Scallops, thought you might get a cheque from LR,as you have almost done 3 yrs R&D for them on the Puma.:D

Have you had a real good look around the alpine windows i think they call them? The son's has got corrosion starting around them.It will be interesting to see what LR do about it.It's alway's garaged.

Well,it is a Puma..............anythings possible......

I had corrosion around the alpine windows of the 95 Disco built when the company was owned by Land Rover....Puma was a species of wild cat back then.

I think that the common denominator is not the engine called Puma or the ownership of the company and that denominator is...

LAND ROVER

I have the same extended warranty and have had no real issues making claims, albeit it is a TD5... I think I am only about $500 shy of it paying for itself.

no idea about that as i hadnt looked into that aspect of it to be frank

i meant as in pulling serious weight type work

seems to me they are very much more problematic when not regularly loaded, to the point that 60k over 3 or 4 years of being driven around empty / casually usually sees them starting to have some major issues.

vw, euro ford, mercs, renault etc etc etc all seem to be similarly affected.

oddly enough, water pumps seem to be a prime example and i have to say it escapes me how service duty would inversely affect durability so dramatically on that sort of component but the anecdotal evidence is certainly easy to find.

all a bit deep for me :p

Thanks - Solmanic already gave me the heads up with this one - hey - this is one problem mine doesn't (hasn't) have (had)!

Even so - this would be covered under the 6 year corrosion warranty, methinks. ;)

I think if you look in the small print in the warranty stuff it has to go once a year to the dealer for them to look at it or it may not be covered.........

Yeah - mine goes to the dealer every 8 weeks so I'm all good there too. :D (I have had an annual LR corrosion inspection done).
