RRS - 2.7 TDV6

For quite a while I have been thinking about buying a used RRS as my daily drive. I would love a TDV8 but these are outside my price range so it will have to be a 2.7 TDV6 (06/07MY).

I am not in a position to drive one but I am sure from what others have said they are great to drive. Given the weight of the car and the 140kw/440nm output of the engine I guess performance is relaxed - with chipping what sort of output will the engine deliver and does it make much different on the road.

Now just waiting for the right car to come along - unfortunately most are grey or black with black or grey interiors.

Oh - tow bars - are you restricted to the genuine version or is there a good aftermarket version available. I will not be doing a lot of towing but when I do it will be in the 2 tonne - 2.5 tonne range.

Garry, if you go with the "Autologic" remap of the ECU you will end up with around 175Kw and 540nm which I can assure you is plenty! The standard tow bar that comes with the car is rated to 3.5t; if you want an after market one for towing off road (ie better clearance) then Mitchell Bros 4x4 version at somewhere around $600 or so is the go.

Garry they are around, we just traded a 36K 07MY Late Friday night.
It is Silver with Black int.
There are only 2 colors in the early versions Black or Alpaca(Yellow/Sand Color), No grey, its probably just the photo's.
They are a little chopier & firmer than the D3, shorter wheelbase & lower profile tyres.
Chipping makes them even MORE fun...;)

Thanks for the information - prices of the cars I am interested in seem to have a range of about $15K with no apparent linkage to Kms. I have seen some low km lower priced vehicles and others at the higher end with with higher km. Black seems to be a much cheaper colour - but black is not an option for me. I owned a black car and never again.

I am going to finances out of investments so money is available in the bank so I can move if something comes available. At the moment I have spotted a couple of 35,000km 06 Mys that might be worth looking at.

I was looking at them prior to buying my D3.

I was advised to buy 07MY if budget would allow.

I would have bought one however the GFC hit & they seemed to disapear off the market.

They seem to be more expensive now than 2 years ago, I think this is because the new ones are more expensive.

I only wanted a 5 seater & liked the storage comparment in the back.

I also prefer the ride - not so much body movement.

I test drove a TDV8 - awesome.

Having said the above I am very happy with my D3.

They are basically a Disco 3 with a different body shell...

As you say, the drive is relaxed but once moving, it's no slouch. You can get them re-mapped but TBH I personally would just keep it in standard tune.

I don't know about any after market offerings on tow bars but IIRC the standard one should be able to cope with what you want to do.

Hi Gary,

You can upgrade the tow-hitch receiver to the 2010 version - it's a little better for off-road towing as it doesn't hang down as far as the older ones.

I got one for my wife to allow my other brand tourer to be parked up and now only comes out of the shed for trips away - The RRS is fantastic I brought it in QLD as I could only find Blacks here and the wait for a new one with the RSE etc was beyond 6 months from the local supplier - I too thought about engine upgrades but after my 4000km drive home I was more than impressed :) since then it has cemented my choice as a great fit into our garage - the wife is already talking about when do we order the one!

With regard to the tow bar I've pulled numerous car trailers with the D3 and the standard plough with no problems. Unless you are going to be towing a trailer off road the Mitch hitch is not really necessary. Downside with the plough is you have to take the trailer off to get the spare down but that's not the end of the world either if you aren't towing all the time.
I guess it all depends on where you are planning for the 101 to break down :twisted:

Hush your mouth - only been towed twice in the last 10 months:o and a rope tow by the NRMA from around the corner.

As far as tow bars are concerned - I am not real keen on that monstrosity hanging down under the rearand if something better was available i would consider it.

I have spotted one that looks OK so might have a talk to them this week. With no trade and finance not required what sort of % reduction in advertised price can I reasonably expect to be able to negotiate.

I normally would but private owners of RRS seem to have an over inflated opinion of what their car is worth. Dealers price seem very competitive with private and in many cases cheaper.

Made an offer (about 7% lower than list) on a nice low km RRS but the dealer would not move very much at all - even though my offer was much higher than the Glass guide believes the car is worth (yes I do appreciate these guides do not often reflect reality).
