View Full Version : GCLRO Christmas Party

From an oldie's point of view this latest GCLRO outing was a resounding success and a hearty round of credit is due to all and sundry who partook in the organisation, logistics, behind the scenes help, cleaning up and general running of the function, along with the supporters, sponsors, and also the members who made an effort and offered support simply by being there and supplying numbers.
Take a bow everyone!

Friday afternoon saw a gradual build up of attendees turning up and staking claims to their spots and the designated area began to hum with life and a lot of Land Rover based conversations.
One or two somewhat bewildered 'non believers' blundered in to our designated area and possibly woke up on Saturday morning, surrounded by hordes of landies, wondering what the heck had happened overnight.
We were amongst the earlier of those to turn up and grabbed a nice shady spot down under the trees and, (so we thought) far enough away from the planned festivities.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/129.jpg
We quietly went about our nocturnal feeding duties and then sat around the Jordan's little "Arken Flarken" and enjoyed a quiet red and a sedate sip of muscat or two then decided to retire round about midnight or so.

There had been no "official fire" set up on the Friday, so on the demise of the "Oldies" at around midnight or so, the younger set decided that it would be a good idea to move the "Arken Flarken" (which by this time had been allowed to die down to some magnificent toasting coals) next door and rekindle a "signal flare" (possibly visible by satellite) and continue on a little later into the night.
Saturday morning arrived along with one or two relatively "less than perfect condition" heads around the camp site and then the festive activities preparation teams swung into action.
The "official Fire" was lit in the centre of the "flat area" to supply hot coals for the "spit" that reportedly was on its way.
The spit arrived, complete with one very capable "operating crew" and the lamb carcass was prepared and fitted and the cooking process began.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/134.jpg
Unfortunately, even the best laid plans of mice and men can go astray and this was true of this particular operation as apparently the fully floating automatic, hydromatic, pneumatically controlled transmission fitted to the fully blown electronic driven motor operating the spit had just run out of extended warranty and failed to cooperate in the manner it was intended. Luckily there was ample technical support people handy and the problem was soon rectified.

Meanwhile back in the tent lines and else where others were also very busy

Ladies were busy cutting up Cole Slaw, Salad, and hot potatoes, and slicing and administering finishing touches to the sweets that were to follow, and meanwhile people were sitting around at civilised seating arrangements enjoying an "entree" of sausage sandwiches whilst awaiting the promised lavish feast which was definitely "fit for Royalty".

The AGM was fitted in somewhere around 1600hrs or so, followed by a club donated raffle (in which I was fortunate enough to win a great prize!) and this was followed by a selection of sliced Cheese cakes, carrot cakes, chocolate crackles, slices and other goodies, to round off the day.

There was a great assortment of vehicles present and one of the aspects of the GCLRO that I value most of all, is the diversity of interests held by members of this club, catering to all tastes from the "hard Core" rock tamers types, the everyday "workhorse-suburban taxi" types, the "long range tour" people to the old "vintage historic" collector types, and the fact that all these different interests and tastes are catered for under the commonality of the one single brand name, by this club, is no mean feat at all.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/144.jpg
With this in mind, the "Leaf sprung" element of the club was very well supported this year with no less than 7 vehicles of this genre attending!

Just thought I would finish this epistle with one or two shots of what was possibly the oldest attendee along side the youngest,

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/147.jpg
and last but but by no means least, a shot that shows the promise that the support of the Land Rover marque will most possibly be carried on to the next generation.

The event was a huge success indeed, my thanks to the gents and ladies that did the catering, supplied seating and shade/cover, supplied food, and to the committee for doing an excellent job in running the club!!

It was indeed remarkable to see so many and varied Landrovers there - bliss.... :D:cool:

Just a quick post from me. (and only 1 pic!)

We turned up on Friday, I headed down in the Stage 1 before it got dark, in convoy with Grant, Mel and Elliot (Presto)

Set up camp and had a good talk with everyone who was already there. Sam turned up about 7pm in the 90 with the majority of our beer!

We then decided to sort out a traditional camping type dinner, and all headed to the local pub for take away wood fired Pizzas!

We had a great time, and really enjoyed it. t was nice to catch up with everyone. I totally agree with Glens comments above about the feel of the club, and the interaction of everyone, even though their specific area of interest in LR's varies. I think that is one of the really great aspects of the club and it really is a credit to the members.

Having a chat to Trav about 10am on Saturday morning we were saying it made a change to just be able to sit down and relax, as on a normal trip by 10am in the morning, we would have been stuck or broken something!

I would like to thank a few people, so aswell as to all the members for coming, and also voting in the AGM, I think specific mention need to go to the following, (please forgive me if I have made any mistakes):

Kelvin (Disco_trasher) for his non stop work sorting out the spit and cooking all day, and also to the spit motor repair team!

Grimace, Jess and Linda, for supplying and putting up the tarps and about 20 fold up tables and chair sets, and then putting them all down again, along with tables, food warmers and no doubt numerous other things!!

Wayne and Leanette for supplying and cooking the Pork, and for supplying some great raffle prizes.

Glen for cooking breakfast!

Patsy, Laurelle and Carolyn for the salads and potatos for lunch! No small feat for over 100 people!

Also thanks to whoever made all the deserts! Sorry I wasn't sure who did those, but they were fantastic!

Josh for doing a ridiculous amont of work behind the scenes to ensure everything went smoothly.

Everyone who helped with packing and tidying this morning. When we left the campsite was as it was when we arrived.

And finally, thanks to the 2 members of the commitee who have stepped down and the 3 replacements (there was 1 vacant position), so thanks to Richard and Dave. Your input has been much appreciated, and welcome on board to the new members of the team, Mark, Tim and Greg.

G'day everyone,
well a great weekend was had by all, great food, Landrover enthusiasts, an ideal campsite location by the creek, and of course a fine contingent of Land Rovers.
The heritage of Land Rover being well represented by the roll out of Series Landys.
Thanks to all those who came along with their vehicles
Thanks also to all those who made the event the great weekend that it was. . . especially el-presidente Josh for all his planning and organising.

Here's some pics of the event that I snapped with my new digital camera.

Alright you lot, it's my turn for a report so either bypass or read with interest

Okay, first sour note of the weekend., I had to drive the ****ing Disco :mad::mad: it's a comfortable bit of gear but I was hoping to represent the dwindling number of Rangie classics in the club with the bullet but after a few items after Coffs to sort out and bugger-all time before the weekend it was a no show for the bullet. I suppose it was to show up in the Disco than nothing so we'll leave it at that I guess.

I convoy with Roland, Lesley and the kids in Raj (the LSE) we got to the campgrounds at around 5.30PM. As usual, I had to crack a beer once we arrived but one was enough as I needed to get the tent and so forth up so it was a halt on the beers for a few minutes wilts I got it sorted. I also brought along some timber I have been collecting on the job sites (was in the bin anyway) to satisfy the club pyro, that being me :twisted:

Tea was bought, none of this cooking crap :D The local pizza joint was utilized, bloody good pizza too better than the cardboard crap the 'others' put out there :( Ate about half of it (my eyes were bigger than my ever enlarging gut :() but saved it for later on if I was hungry which after a few beers was a likely possibility.

Fire(s) were started and the beer was flowing in more ways than one. Some of our older club members headed of to bed wilts us younger louts stayed up and talked about all sorts of irrelevant topics one involving peanut butter and parts of a dogs anatomy which for some reason I am trying to get out of my head now thanks Grimace you sick ****er :2up:

A short nights sleep, a tad hungover and it was back to business, doing **** all. As Pete mentioned it was unusual especially for me who rarely attends social type trips (my motto to date generally if it ain't red or G4 I won't be there) by about 10AM we would have dented, busted or been stuck up some track we shouldn't have been up in the first place. Kelvin arrived with one big arse sheep for us all to feast on later in the day and the spit as well. It was a bit of a struggle and after Greg and Rat Chris) bit of engineering to get the rotisserie to work it was all good. See you can't go past dunga spec :twisted::twisted:

More and more of our fellow club members arrived for the feed and the AGM and by the time the AGM had arrived it was time to vote in a new committee for the first time in 5 years (this being my first AGM for the first time in the 4 years as a member of the club as I usually avoid these like the plague). I have been in many 4WD clubs and in many instances it's hard to fill positions as nobody is keen to get in there and have a crack. I have been involved in committee work before in clubs and sorry to say not for me I'll stick to leading a couple of trips here and there.

Once all sorted, the new committee was worn in and on with more drinking, fire banter and me falling asleep in front of it as usual as I was rooted by about 7:30PM (getting older business isn't good, although I'm still in my 30's :mad::mad::mad:)

A decent nights sleep, a big greasy breakkie made by me (I have to eat straight away, I can't wait til 9AM sorry) and packed up the Disco (add swear words here)a and the whole 25 min trip back to Jimboomba and the weekend was over. A big thanks too all who made the weekend a success and the club is going strength to strength as we're about to hit the century as far as members goes very soon.

On another note, good to see the series crew whilst I'm not a fan of slab seats, no suspension or driving flat out at 90kph I thought I would never see them on the same trip as me. For the newer members who don't know me (poor bastards, probably a good thing quietly :wasntme:), I don't do social trips as per norm and it was good to see that our club is very well supported overall by all aspects of the marque even if your Land Rovers never make a Trav trip for good or bad reason.

Okay, things I leaned-

I love my Rangie and most of the 13 that I previously have owned. Sorry to the RRC faithful I had to show up in a POS Disco so please don't shoot me :mad:

Kelvin does one mean spit roast, must be a African thing :D:D:cool:

Greg is the jack of all trades, not just a mere concreter

Grimace is one twisted ****er who brings up all sorts of devious topics after a few beers (maybe you wait til we are all ****ed so we can understand your logic )

I never thought I would be on the same club trip with Series vehicles. Pete takes out the award for the best, one reason it has a V8 and it sounds as good if not better as the bullets V8 exhaust too :twisted::twisted:

Pete is still a top bloke, even for a pom just let's not talk about the ****ing ashes :D:D:D:D

I do drink other types of beer besides xxxx gold although I still ran out and owe Greg a few (wouldn't of happened if I had stuck to the Gold :().

Okay, I've dribbled on enough read away if you dare

G'day All,

Been meaning to pop up a post. First off.....well done committee and helpers for putting on a great day. Aside from trips.....this has been my first catch up since the last AGM . I've been in the club coming up for almost 5 years....was the 7th club member, 3 of those years as a committee member and sponsor......now it's more about the mates that I have as opposed to the club itself.

The upside is that all my mates and I have a common interest....the club, landies and 4WDing :D. The club could close down tomorrow and I would still have life long friends.

In the "old" days.......trips involved just about everyone in the club and those people have formed the backbone of the club, whether Josh as President......through to the likes of Justin, Trav, Phillipe,Mick, Harry, Louis, Camo etc. I kinda miss those days to be honest.

However like many things....progress has a place......and with that progress, for myself I have new mates....whether it be Pete, my long lost brother Rod, Richard,Dave, Wayne and the list goes on.

So whilst I see seperate groups forming under the one umbrella......make sure that you get out on an all round trip. Trips are what it is about, friendship, camp fire banter and hopefully as my work load eases up.....I for one will be back out there more often, with young Jack in tow.

Again well done to the organisers...more importantly for me....great to see many of my mates again......was like the months gone by didn't even exist :twobeers:....and was super ****ed I couldn't stay :(

Regards

Stevo

Hi, all just wanted to say a very big thank you to the Committee for organising the AGM weekend and in particular the jumping castle for the kids I know Jaspar and Georgia had a fantastic time as did Lesley and myself. It was great to see the club supporting all its members and the members in return supporting the club. Congrats to the new committee and keep up the fantastic effort that make the GCLRO club what it is. :)
