Bought a high lift jack today and wondered where I would jack the car?
I used my standard jack on the weekend and that fits into holes in the bull bar or rear bar.
Under the bullbar slopes upwards / isn't flat so can't use that.
Obviously no good under the sills. I have mags so jack mates no good.
How is this done?

You can buy / make an adapter for your High lift which uses the existing holes both front and rear.
IMHO it is not safe to use the high lift jack anywhere else.

Hi,
my Def 130 ARB bull bar has 2 HL Jack points either side, with re enforced recovery points incorporated in the bottom of the opening.
The Defender wheels will also accept a strap with 2 hooks, designed to Hi lift from the wheel using the holes in the rim.

rovacraft sell an adapter for about $60 that allows you to slit into the round jacking holes.

Adaptor also available from Opposite Lock: Jack Adaptor - Land Rover and Other at Opposite Lock Australia (http://www.oppositelock.com.au/index.php?next_page=product/product_detail.php&product_id=8501&category_id=606)

As mentioned, make or buy an adaptor.
Instead (which was much more work!) I made solid steel rock sliders/air tanks/side steps, which are more than strong enough to jack off.
On the IIA I have jacked off the rear crossmember and rear tow point many times, but it is stronger than a defender, and there is no spare wheel carrier to get in the way.

Not any more - only via their retailers and probably for much more than $60 now...

My ARB bar hasn't ! Care to share some pics? (Have you got the new Puma friendly arb bar perhaps?)

The real problem for us 130 types is that we cant get at the rear x-member with a hi-lift due to the tub (or tay) overhang.

Careful with jack adapters, I have a commercial one and it doesn't fit the jacking points in my 85 Conty or Shonky's 96ish Defender. Shaft diameter is too big, only by a mm or so. It was in my vehicle's toolbox when I bought the car so not sure on brand. Test before you buy.
My Dad's home made jobby fits, its made from a Series axle, some angle iron and lots of weld.

Hi,
I was down at a local Nuts 'n Bolts place yesterday, and they had a Kingchrome highlift for sale.
I asked if I could try it for fit on the defender - Not happy with the fit. Loose as.
I will try out an ARB highlift to see how it fits.
When I was researching bars, I was impressed with the design of the TJM bar and the 'T' shaped slot that was designed to take the highlift, though I only saw images of the bar and jack.
cheers

Do yourself a favour, and if you definately want a High Lift Jack, buy a genuine HiLift branded jack.Mine is over 20years old,and if you manage to break shear pins etc,you can still buy parts, and it is solidly made, which some I have seen leave a bit to be desired.

As for the rear 130 Hi lift points, you can always build them into the sliders, as can be seen under the center of the ladder.

How do these work in real life ? Anyone used them in anger on a TJM bar ? I've always worried that the jack would bind in the t slot as you lifted the vehicle whereas a round hole would allow it to turn.

the ARB bar on "The Mistress" has the round holes to suit a standard jack or my preference is a highlift with adapter
