Hello

Just on the off chance does anyone know the size of the bolt I need for the front spring hangers of the series 2a????

we went to put front springs on last night only to find no bolts, it was at that point Ian remembered cutting them off because they were seized:(.

I would look it up in the parts manual I brought from Dave however Ian has it at work:eek:...quite why you need a series parts manual at work when you fix jumbo's is beyond me:D

Also are they readily available as I would really like to get some as soon as poss so we can start putting bits back on the car

I just found some on ebay... for spring and shackle bolts the bloke wants $80 + postage

does that sound expensive? I dont actually need a full set as the rear ones were OK

Depends how desperately you want them. This crowd have them for about $1 each plus postage.
- Suspension (http://www.paddockspares.com/sp/cat/SERIES/sub/Suspension/sid/131/sb2/3++Suspension+Parts.html)

I would expect to pay about $10 each for a high-tensile bolt of the right size from a machinery dealer in Oz,

Up to suffix A they're 1/2" BSF, after that they're 9/16 UNF. However, all the shackle pins are different. My handwritten notes in the parts manual for the 1/2" BSF say:

270741 Front end front spring, 2 off, short bolt, long thread.
233625 Rear end, front spring, 4 off, long bolt.
236969 Rear end, rear spring, 4 off, short bolt, short thread.
270741 Rear end, front spring, 2 off, short bolt, long thread.

A long bolt is 5 3/8", a short bolt is 4 3/8"

They were buggers to get hold of, Brian at LVS turned up most of them from his cabinets upstairs after much searching, but from memory I had to import some from LR Series in the UK. I think the locknuts came from Classic Fasteners Classic Fasteners - Fasteners for your vehicle restoration project. (http://www.classicfasteners.com.au/).

I just checked Clasic Fasteners, and they only go up to 4"

LR Series are not even finding parts 270741 and 233625.

I've got a set of rear shackles with 4 bolts in the "cleaned up and ready to go" box, so I presume (if I've been logical) the bolts are short bolt, short thread. I've also got 8 nyloc nuts for them.

I don't think anything I've got will help you out, but it's there if you need it.

As per previous advice, try Gary at CLR and Brian at LVS, then maybe All4x4 at Kotara.

The 4" bolts at Classic Fasteners are $10 each. The full set on ebay gives you 12 bolts, so $80 sounds very reasonable. Make sure you get the right size, 1/2" BSF or 9/16" UNF.

So my bolts turned up today...

Gggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I'm so annoyed. the only bolt I need DOES NOT FIT.

so I have bought a full bolt and shackle kit because I need a front shackle bolt and the bolts supplied does not fit the front shackle. :(

I have emailed the ebayer Gary to find out if he has sent the right kit and told him it does not fit my front shackle as the bolt taken out is a shouldered bolt and the one he has given is a fraction to long doesn't appear to be the right thread and does not have a tapered shoulder.

So parts going on the car has been halted once again :( :BigCry:

DB What you have is an early SIIa or SII shackle pin and plate. 9/16" shaft shoulder and 1/2" BSF thread.

Are the rest of the vehicle's shackles like that? May be able to help you out with some second hand stuff tomorrow - will be out at Prestons and can probably find either other second hand pins or second hand shackles to fit your 9/16" pins.

Hi Diana

The rest of the vehicle seems OK I think the rear shackles are different to the front.
Diana will the shackles to fit the 9/16 bolt be able to be used on this vehicle???

Hi Diana

Diana will the shackles to fit the 9/16 bolt be able to be used on this vehicle???The length of the shackles (eye-to-eye) are the same, the difference is in the shouldered bolt.

The length of the front spring shackles are the same on 88 and 109

In the rear springs the 109 and 88 the shackles are different lengths.

Army shackles are different again.

Which is your problem end?

the problem currently is the front...

all the rest of the bolts seem to fit everything else just not the front shackles
