View Full Version : UHF Channel for Defenders/LRs?
gng1
25th January 2011, 06:31 PM
So we have the wave, is there any possibility on agreeing a Defender or LR UHF channel?
My other half doesn't like to listen to the crap that comes from generally scanning the channels or sticking to the truckie channels...
Is there a channel that I'm not aware of?

Hmmm the same thought has crossed my mind on many occasions.
Channel 10 is often used in the FWD fraternity, though our club, GCLRO, use ch15 usually.
Maybe we should publicise a Chanel specifically for AULRO:D
Who wants to recommend which channel?

Not a bad idea but is it going to be nation wide or just Queensland?

Good idea:D

But down here when traveling around Melbourne you can't find a quiet channel:(
With quarries, concrete plants, container yards, road works and factories using UHF's it's hard just to talk to someone for 5 mins.
But then I scan and use 8 channels during the day myself:angel:

1-9 are repeater(when available), 22+23 data. 40Hwy(36default now).
What about 20? Isn't it the caravan/motor home channel?

Sounds like a great idea. When we were on Fraser i was wondering if there were any other AULRO people on the island. It would be a great way to meet up with AULRO people when were out and about were ever we are.;)

Hi All
My thoughts are to stick with channel 10 for the moment, extra channels are on their way (80), so trying for another quiet channel with the current line up is a bit wishful at the present. :(

By all means nominate a clear channel on the day for a group chatter channel, but dont forget that with channel 10 now being accepted Aust wide for fourwheel drive trips it does give a extra margin for safety, especially when driving tracks towards each other.

Im am at the present fitting a new Icom transceiver into the defender, that I didn't get time to have working before the last trip, this should be a change to the batteries running out of puff on the handheld's. :)

I go for Ch10, because that is where my radio sits, being the channel used by LRC-ACT. Given the move to 80 channels sometime early in 2011, we will no doubt make a change, or some of the current users of our channel 10 will, we hope!

Chn 10 is a nightmare it is to busy.

Yes, it (10) is generally the nominate channel for most off road destinations EG : Simpson, Cape York.....

BUT, correct me if I am wrong - we are looking for a channel that AULRO members can communicate with each other on, are we not ????

I would assume (there's that word) if you spot another LR, you could switch to "20" and have a quick chat... yes ?....No...?

Channel "20" lets stick with that !

That's my understanding Drover,
Channel 20 is the channel I turn to if I happen to see a random Defender or any other Land Rover, or maybe an AULRO trip.
Club channels will still be club channels for club trips.
And 10 is for general 4x4ing.

I used to get the truckies round this way on 20. Over the last year I have only heard 2 people. Mine is left of 20 unless I have a reason to change it.

I agree with this. For the ch 10 adherents, isn't it possible to program most receivers to selectively scan? So listen to 10 but scan 20 or vice versa? Not that I know how to program mine...
