Hi
Is there a way to tidy up the dull looking gal strips on the series?
I'm positive I saw a thread on it not that long ago and I can not find it.
I did a google search also but all it appears to give me is ways to clean it so it can be painted or prepped to be galvanized:(.
When I paint the car I would like to tidy all the gal strips up so they dont look old and dull
is there a way?

Steel soap pads...works the best. (With thanks to Uncle Ho.)

I have used a cutting polish on them. Other suggestions include steel wool, pot scourers, and mild acids such as vinegar. But I think my idea removes the minimum amount of zinc, and helps to preserve the surface better than most methods.

Regular rubbing with bare hands. Check out the local playground bars.

Some people are better rubbers than others.

I've just recently used a brass-coated wire brush on mine, and it came up beautifully. I guess the message from people will be to use the most gentle means you can, to leave the most of the original surface as possible. No doubt somebody has a better method than mine.

So will you change your handle from "dullbird" to "shinybird" if you "tidy up the dull looking gal strips..."?:D

Septone Fast Orange hand cleaner and a bit of elbow grease worked for me. It also works on paintwork if you have rust stains like most pussluxes and hiace vans. Just don't rub too hard and use a bit of water.
Cheers Ian
