Hi All,

I hope this topic hasn't already been covered somewhere, but i'm just looking for some advice as to where people have installed their radios in the puma? Photos would be great if you have some.
Also, where a good place for the antenna? I don't have a bullbar so thinking either somewhere mounted on the grill?
Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Gitney,

Do you have a UHF yet?

The mounting location depends on the UHF you buy or have.

I bought an ICOM 440 which has all the controls, speaker and display in the hand set. The main unit is fixed to the side of the cubby box on the drivers side.

The antenna can be gutter mounted which is great for reception but is prone to being knocked by low hanging stuff. Someone here mounted theirs to a metal bracket fixed the top cross member above the radiator on the passengers side. It seemed to be a neat solution. I'll see if I can track down the thread....and here it is:

Hi,
I lifted the cubby and made a new radio mounting bracket that fits under it and is held down by the cubby screws. The wiring is all under the cubby and goes through the floor there to enter the battery box. The radio sits beside the driver, there is only just enough clearance between the cubby and the seat to allow air flow to keep it cool. Mine does get a bit warm.

My antenna is on the cross bar on the ute tray behind the cab, it is mounted along side a gps receiver permanently housed in a small plastic weather proof box.

cheers

Thanks Guys,

I am looking at the Uniden UH7760NB which looks like a similar size to the ICom 440 with all the controls on the hand held part.
The mount on the radiator bolts looks like the way to go too.

Thanks for yur help!

I had an idea the other day which I have not yet had a chance to measure up. I am looking at buying a GME TX3340 which is very small (100mm(W) x 85mm(D) x 25mm(H)). My idea was to velcro it to the top of the steering column ie the flat section between the steering wheel and the dash instruments.

This is where I've put mine, also no bullbar so they made a bracket to mount antenna.

The radio is mounted on the back of the cuddy, a little awkward to turn on and change channel. But it doesn't get much use so live with it okay.

Luckily it's proven to be a fairly robust radio so far. Whenever it rains water ****es through the sunroof and soaks it.
