Friend of mine has a Lotus Elise and asked me if I wanted to go along on a club run this morning.

I could take quite a shine to those cars, what fun they are to drive !

Only problem, when I go back in the Range Rover I felt I was about 2 storeys off the ground. I kept checking the ride height to see if was in off road height.

They are nice little club cars and I would not say no to one.
I remember at Bathurst one year we were talking v8s and 4x4s and a guy came up trying to impress us with his talk of his Lotus Elise and no one was interested. I think he picked the wrong crowd.

adm333 - how's your spine ? Those things generally have track biased suspenson set ups.

where's our resident "Elan" owner ? Surely's he'll pipe up sometime soon.
I won;t "out" him - that his concern !

I went to a corporate event where we got to play with a couple of Exiges on a skid pan at Mt Cotton for the afternoon. Most excellent fun indeed ( once I had wedged myself into the seat )

Regards,
Tote

Is he also a member of LROCB ? I think I know who you mean

Yes I have always lusted after an Exige and thought the Elise was just a poor mans version, BUT I had a customer with one that I was expressing this thought with and the next day he turned up and gave me the keys for a spin... :eek2::eek2: I take it all back, it was fab! Wahat a fun car, lightweight, nimble, great power to weight ratio.........

Yup I want one :D

Cheers,

They are one of the few sports cars that I would love to own. Remeber as a kid a local guy having an Elan.

Like I alluded to I was speaking to a guy at my gun club who was driving one (his wife's). He said she lovesd it but it really was a pain in the bum (spine) as a daily driver. Not only harsh suspension but also hard to get in and out of.

I know there's a wee price difference but I still prefer Astons thanks !

Whenever I hear about or see a Lotus I think of an unfortunate mate who had a Europa; one of the originals. The marriage went bad and he lost his house and the Lotus had to go. In the paper next weekend and already had interest from the grapevine. So he took it for a final drive to say good-bye. Shorted, caught fire and burnt to a moulten mass. Uninsured. He can't remember getting out. All of axsudden he was out of the harness and on the of the road watching his last 15 grand burn. Back in the day when 15 grand was not peanuts.

Back in 2000 my mate had an Elise and i had a WRX. I couldn't catch him
Until then i had always thought they were chicks cars. Then i took it for a spin. Hooly crap! What fun! ****y little 1.8 felt like a V8! Power to weight was amazing. Impressive grip too.
I put him in his place with my Honda VTR1000 tho :D he thought that the lotus was quicker than a bike:wacko:
He used it as a DD and it was always in the shop then one day at the lights in Bridge rd it caught fire and was written off (he was lucky to get out) and the insurance company wouldn't pay out because of speeding fines he hadn't disclosed :o
fun cars but definatley not DD (not even in summer) and really best on the track or Great Ocean Road 10 years ago:wasntme:

Friends used to have an esprit.
Great to look at, great sound,n fast and handled like it was on rails. Loved that thing until the hotel bell boy pranged it.

Had and old ford and a Westfield clubman that I turned into the P38. Not sorry I did it but the clubman was fun. Had a couple of runs at winton and found out I was slow. Got to run at Collingrove hillclimb a couple of years ago, great fun but tricky, hard to stay on track.
