Hi everone,
We just got our first resto project two days ago, an 88 series 2a.

I have been reading other posts and have been looking for some numbers, this is a list of what I found so far.

Engine block ( near inlet manifold )
# 525183

Engine block ( behind water pump )
# 252313730

Engine has a brand I think it reads - "DUALLAS" or similar.

Is this an original LR engine? The glass fuel bowl is marked 'Land Rover'
Is it a 2.0 ltr?

Metal plate
(inside center cockpit)

Rover Co Ltd
Solihull England

LRS 10341
Ser No 8810341
Pressed metal Corp Syd.

# 24309459 C (this number also appears on the QLD rego sticker)
last regd in 2003. It was regd as a '56 2a ???

Is this going to be the Chasis number?

Reading other posts, I am thinking that the 8 digit and suffix number is saying that its a 1959

The metal plate makes me think its an import not Aust. or ex military.

Is this a 'rare-ish' model?

Battery connection.
What battery would you use here?
I don't know if this is a ' positive or negative ' earth.

Any help with these Questions would be great.
I will get some pics up and show you our rusty project

The roof is not sitting flat but if somebody wants it, its yours (glass missing)
there are some door window upper frames (I dont want them either)
(noosa area)
Cheers.

Is this an original LR engine? The glass fuel bowl is marked 'Land Rover'
Is it a 2.0 ltr?The 252313730 number is almost correct for an SIIa 2.283 litre engine, although I rather suspect that the last character is incorrect. I would suspect the number to be something like 25231373G and would have been first fitted to a vehicle in late 1965 or early 1966. The engine number immediately before was delivered to a customer in January 1966.

LRS 10341
Ser No 8810341
Pressed metal Corp Syd.This is the assembly number and is of minimal assistance identifying the vehicle.

# 24309459 C (this number also appears on the QLD rego sticker)
last regd in 2003. It was regd as a '56 2a ???

Is this going to be the Chasis number?Yes it should be the chassis number.

Reading other posts, I am thinking that the 8 digit and suffix number is saying that its a 1959No it's a 1966

The metal plate makes me think its an import not Aust. or ex military. No all Land Rovers had that ID plate, irrespective of where they were built
Is this a 'rare-ish' model? No its a standard CKD 88 Hard top petrol, delivered to Midway Service Station on 11/1/1966.

I think if you investigate the engine number you will find it is: 25231372G

Battery connection.
What battery would you use here?
I don't know if this is a ' positive or negative ' earth.I use an N70ZZ although you can use smaller.

If it was originally -ve earth there should be an ID showing Neg Earth. What it started as may not be the current config.

No problem raskol, I was going to suggest that even your 1959 guestimate would be wrong because in the SII era the 4th digit represented year, so your 4 digit would have made a 1960 but the rest of the prefix was also wrong.

This was redundant when we identified the original allocation record.

Good luck with your project :BigThumb:
