Hey does anyone on here know where i could find a a 4 inch suspension lift for a 97 landrover discovery in australia or would it be a better option to go a 2 inch suspension and a 2 inch body

go 2" + 2" if you want to register it, not 100% sure but I dont think you can get 4" spring lift registered any more, also a 4" lift is bloody expensive because of all the bit that need to be replaced

On a D1 a 2+2 helps in getting metal away from tyres...
A lift doesnt, it just changes the static ride height (under flex it still goes where a std one goes)

I've got 3+2 gives me plenty of room to play but as stated the extras are costing me more than the lift kit did. Weigh it up what do you want big lift for and how much are you willing to pay for it and the engineers that's going to be required to make it legal

I'm running 35x12.5x16's on mine with a guard cut and flexi flares..2" body lift 3" suspension lift -4.25 offset wheels i still scrub sometimes on full flex and had to adjust my steering lock or it scrubbed on the radius arms.. Looks awesome though :)
just be ready to buy new gearing as the large jump in tyres hurts your performace 10 fold.. hills become mountains and low range just aint what it used to be.. I'm saving like mad for lockers and gears right now. hopefully by christmas i should be able to afford them:(

i'm running 35x13.5x16's on my d1 with a 2" body 3" flexy's and cut guards it just rub's nothing major but i will be fitting long bump stops, also had to back off the steering lock. What you also have to consider is extended brake lines, stronger axles and cv's are a must as well diff ratio's i haven't changed mine yet and 5th gear is point less unless u are going down hill at a 100 km's (1400rpm).
i also have front and rear lockers but ever since i put the maxxis mudzilla's on i haven't needed them

Im also Running, 35/12.5/16 tyres, the minumum amount of body lift you can get away with is 40mm, and a 3" lift, Suspension stuff do 3 & 4 inch lift for them, they only list it on the web site under Range Rover but if you give him a call he will do Disco's.
Ive also got extended bump stops, castor corrected QT front arms, cranked rears, Detroit rear locker, Kams front Locker and Kams H/D Axels all round with fuseable front stub shafts, been running 4.11:1 CW&P sets (A MUST) but about to update to Kams 4.75:1's soon

Hey Jezzaol you could save me some hard earned, Why are you opting for the 4.75's over the 4.11's is it just for low range crawling or are the 4.11's just that minimal that you need higher again?? I'm trying to decide before i buy new gears for myself for christmas :D The wife has to supply the lockers  or no more lift for her jeep.

Hey mate,
There is a couple of reasons, the 4.11 is a good gearing and is miles better than the 3.55's, but its quite a well known fact that they are not as strong, The 4.75's are 50% stronger and bilt like a brick **** house ! they are also reverse cut !
I have smashed up my 4.11's in the last comp along with the rear Detroit (not the lockers fault but thats another story!) I want to get the 4.75's and peg them to reduce any possibility of failure in the future !
They will also give me a better Crawling ability and this vehicle is only a toy for comps and play.
I currently have the heads off at the moment and in the process of fitting a THOR manafold to the 4.6 for a bit more boogie !!
here is a bit more info on the build up if you missed it mate with some pics that you requested, http://www.aulro.com/afvb/members-rides/99523-team-rovacraft-disco.html
Also 4WD action Extreme did a 14 page article on it including the centrefold:cool:in the last issue No 13, if you can get hold of it they got some great shots !!

Now this is my kind of thread as i've just started a D1 project to enter the australian 4x4 masters series. Was considering the whole nissan toyota axle swap route, but have decided to stick to original design where possible. From your comments it seems that i'm thinking along the right lines. 35s, 4.75 cwp, 4+2" suspension/body, hi-tough axle/cv combo, f&r tjm pro lockers, and a whole load of embarrassed jap lovers.

Hey mate sounds like a good project !, feel free to keep in contact with any questions !, Ive been building mine for comp work for a number of years now and more than happy to share what did and didnt work etc !
I am currently doing some re-work on my engine and waiting for parts to land from the UK, but once its done I will be getting her over to the Blue Mountains by the end of the year ! (where I now live but I still work in WA).
Ive also been building this with a mate .... http://www.aulro.com/afvb/members-rides/108416-91-3-door-disco.html , its almost finished now but he's got slack and has not posted any pic's for ages ! we did enter Cliff Hanger this year but have had some delays and other problems and re-entered cliff hanger for 2012 in it !

Excuse me for my lack of knowledge but what is the benefit of reverse cut gears???

Reverse Cut, All these ratios are now offered in both the normal rear directional cut and reverse cut for the front so unlike the incorrect stock rover design you are now driving on the stronger drive side of the gear in the front axle.
As per Ashcroft website !

I rang around today call Dobinsons for the springs $195 front $250 rears and snake racing will custom make rancho 9000's for $195 each have to fit the springs first then measure the length from top mount to bottom mount. Going that path myself and removing the body lift or I'm going to have probs with my new bullbar and the authorities

80 series Toyota will fit in the front.
If you change the rear shock bottom mount to an "eye" you can use GQ Patrol shocks.
Using these opens up a whole range of shock brands you can use. As Tombie said stay away from Rancho. Our RRC is 4 " lift and runs Big bore EFS in the rear, the valving is very good for a loaded RRC running 35" tires. (remember to calculate for unsprung weight) Adjustable big bore Tough dogs in the front with after market shock towers to give you more room as the shocks are quite a bit bigger in diameter.
It works well for us and behaves very well on and off road.
Hope this helps.

TJM also offer long travel shocks to suit 3-4" coils (XGS Gold range) - the fronts are from the 100 series [part# 650GE180B], but the rears are custom to Land Rovers (part# 650GEL238S) with eye/pin.
There is also another alternative, which is the one I'm going to try out with my 4" coils. TJM Tiger Adjustables using 100 series in the front [part# 650ADJ180B] and convert the rear mount to eye/eye and run GU rears (part# 650ADJ212E). I'm going to be using these in my build up starting in September, so I'll try to remember to add a performance update once they're installed.
They won't give me as much travel as a full custom setup, but are a good compromise for on/off road manners. These shocks come with 9 stage adjustment, so they should help on-road manners when firmed up and be more compliant off-road when softened.
