Greetings all
Any suggestions on alternate seats for my 2A ? There is a disco being stripped near me and would those seats fit ? I dont want to go and buy and or strip off some seats only to find they dont fit ?

Defender seats will fit, even in the same holes. You can even lift up the bases to access under the seats. Disco seats can be made to fit, but sit you very high, if you are tall you will be looking at the top frame of the windscreen and the bottoms don't lift off.

If you search this section, Series 3 and Technical Chatter there are a couple of threads on fitting seats to 2As or 3s.

I installed Defender bucket seats into mine. Just remember that you will need to get a mod plate for them as I got caught and was told to get one or I will get a fine.

Recently priced seats from Exmoor in UK. $416.00 for 2, drivers and passenger seats and backs. Price includes shipping. Not sure if it would be cheaper to NZ? That was for the series 3 deluxe seats, I think the 2A was a little cheaper. W

That's interesting. Which State are you in?

I bought these through 'John Craddock' in the UK, they are Exmoor trim seats and cost around $400.00 delivered last year:)

This is certainly the rule in Qld. If it's different to the original it needs a mod plate.

Mrs hh, Thats a good deal. 400 for the three seats?? I was quoted that for 2. Ithink for the 3 it was $580.00 delivered. i thought might as well pay $600.00 and buy from gary CLR if I was go that way. Then again Craddock might be cheaper way to go? Want to sell them? W

speaking of seats, i got 2 quotes for reupholtering or recovering my series 3 seats. Both came up with the figure of $1200. :Rolling:Must have gold in vinyl or something. How they come up with that Ill never know. They are basically square blocks of foam with a few clips. Ill ask for a quote from the canvas bloke. he makes swags, soft top covers for 4WDs and canopys for other things. See if he can beat $1200.

Last one I got re-upholstered cost about $80 for the seat and about the same for the back - but the foam was in fairly good condition, just needed the vinyl replacing. On the other hand, it was rib stitched (actually from a late Series 3). But that was a few years ago. I think the secret was to go to a bloke who does tractor seats etc, not restorations.

I got a similar quote to the one Wally got - to redo 3 seats - (~$1200) from a guy in Fyshwick who reckoned he learned his upholstery trade on Land Rover seats.

I pointed out that, at that price, I could import a couple of full sets from the UK.

He had a point, though, with his response. Globally, we are a small market for Land Rover seats so there is no demand for lots of them - no need for someone to gear up for mass production.

The UK, however, is not in the same space - they have, potentially, a huge market.

Economies of scale, I guess.

Which is why we procure goods & services from places that have said economies of scale. Thanks to the internet, the world is flat - again. ;)

There have been sets of seats on fleabay UK recently, not too badly priced iirc.
This set's in Oz (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Land-Rover-Series-2-3-New-Seat-Set-Exmoore-/220792338315?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item33683fb78b#ht_499wt_670), but I think I saw them cheaper from the U.K. site.

That's the set that WallyDog mentioned - from GaryClr

Thought it may be.

I tried to buy a S III a little while ago that had older Celica (iirc) bucket seats fitted.
They made it less easy to get in & out (I'm not a small bloke) but were pretty comfy & my line of sight was fine.
I'm afraid I don't know how simple they were to fit, but presumably it wasn't that difficult.
