It was nice to head out to the springs again. We hadn’t been here for a couple of years, when we had a huge trip with about 30 cars.
This years attendance list was a bit smaller, but still good, with 12 cars.
These were
Dranged, Grimace, Onslow, Sherwin, Camo, Bolts, Stevo68, JohnR, BigDog, Rambling boy, TimJ and us.
A fairly wide range of vehicles between us all.
We decided to run everyone in one group and see how we went.
For the first run out, Justin took lead, and Rod tail end, with us second. This worked pretty well.
We headed out of camp and up ‘the skids’ which is a trail up the base of one of the valleys, which has a few nice rock sections and ledges. There were also bypasses for those who wanted them.
The first ledge appeared and Justin made it up pretty easily.

We then nudged up to it and made it up ok, bar a bit of faffing at the top until I had a spotter to tell me where the wheels were!

Ramblingboy does a nice wheel stand:

We then headed over towards 2nd gear climb, and fig tree lane. I lead the ‘standard’ cars up fig tree lane, while Justin, Rod, Grimace, and JohnR decided to have a crack at the harder ‘2nd gear climb’
Justin made it up before I got there with the camera!
Rod:

Nice wheel stand which was held for a good few metres:

Grimace had a crack at it in the unlocked Reggie but decided that calling it quits would be safer than breaking something:

As does his near side rear axle when it gets loaded up heavily L:

So we then headed back for a spot of lunch. Between a few people, the larger part of the broken axle, and small spline section was removed, with a tool that was made in the campsite. Some nice work between Grimace, John and Justin saw this done pretty quickly.
After this, we headed out again, with me at the front.
This time we headed over the far side of the camp site, following main street, a small section of VB Gulch, love hill, down Lovers walk, and back up Floyds stroll, before heading over to ticker creek, loopy 31 and Woodstock.
There were some nice little sections of track:

Tim probably had the most exciting moment of the day however. There were some very deep erosion gulleys on a slope. The first few of us, got up straddling these. Tim series, maybe because it was slightly narrower, wasn’t quite so lucky:
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/07/42.jpg
Luckily Justin managed to winch him over the top nice and safely so there was no damage done!
While on Woodstock, we did just that and cut up a couple of dead trees, and loaded them into a couple of the cars. There was a heap of wildlife around.
Once the cars were loaded up we headed back to camp, and got the fire going.
On the way back:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/07/44.jpg
So once the fire was going, we got some dinner on, and a few beers. Grimace maybe had a couple too many as I don’t think John and Alisons dogs will ever be the same again, and neither will anyone who was still awake!
At one stage we put a log on the fire, when about 2 minutes later a possum stuck its head out  Trav would have been in heaven:D there was a massive rush of action and the log was removed, and placed against another tree. The possum then extracted itself, thankfully unharmed.
Sunday dawned and most of us headed out again. Unfortunately by this stage our camera seemed to stop working, so I don’t have any pictures from today which was a shame as we did some great tracks, all of which were slightly harder than Saturdays efforts.
We covered the entire Brisbane Way, part of Rangie drive, Highway hill, Quarry hill up and down and then back to the campsite for some lunch, and to start packing up.
Nearly had a bit of a disaster after lunch when JohnR’s dogs decided to go after a kangaroo! Argh!
We spent a long time walking around, and then driving around looking for them. Eventually they were found about 2 hours later, but some day trippers to the park, who grimace and I had spoken to earlier when we were driving around looking for them. This was lucky and a big relief!
So with the potentially major crisis averted, the last 3 of us headed off, airing up in warwick, and convoying most of the way back.
Anyway we had a really good trip and it was great to catch up with everyone again. Cant wait for the next one.
Cheers
