Cheers for the report Pete
John were you running standard or hi-tough axles?
It was nice to head out to the springs again. We hadn’t been here for a couple of years, when we had a huge trip with about 30 cars.
This years attendance list was a bit smaller, but still good, with 12 cars.
These were
Dranged, Grimace, Onslow, Sherwin, Camo, Bolts, Stevo68, JohnR, BigDog, Rambling boy, TimJ and us.
A fairly wide range of vehicles between us all.
We decided to run everyone in one group and see how we went.
For the first run out, Justin took lead, and Rod tail end, with us second. This worked pretty well.
We headed out of camp and up ‘the skids’ which is a trail up the base of one of the valleys, which has a few nice rock sections and ledges. There were also bypasses for those who wanted them.
The first ledge appeared and Justin made it up pretty easily.
We then nudged up to it and made it up ok, bar a bit of faffing at the top until I had a spotter to tell me where the wheels were!
TimJ followed us up.
Bolts heading up:
JohnR:
Grimace:
We then headed into the top section of this track:
Ramblingboy does a nice wheel stand:
Which Stevo then betters:
JohnR’s lacklustre attempt
Stevo ploughing:
JohnR:
Onslow (Michael and Kylie) in their Brand new very nice 110:
Sherwin and BigDog:
We then headed over towards 2nd gear climb, and fig tree lane. I lead the ‘standard’ cars up fig tree lane, while Justin, Rod, Grimace, and JohnR decided to have a crack at the harder ‘2nd gear climb’
Justin made it up before I got there with the camera!
Rod:
Nice wheel stand which was held for a good few metres:
Grimace had a crack at it in the unlocked Reggie but decided that calling it quits would be safer than breaking something:
JohnR has a crack.
As does his near side rear axle when it gets loaded up heavily L:
So we then headed back for a spot of lunch. Between a few people, the larger part of the broken axle, and small spline section was removed, with a tool that was made in the campsite. Some nice work between Grimace, John and Justin saw this done pretty quickly.
After this, we headed out again, with me at the front.
This time we headed over the far side of the camp site, following main street, a small section of VB Gulch, love hill, down Lovers walk, and back up Floyds stroll, before heading over to ticker creek, loopy 31 and Woodstock.
There were some nice little sections of track:
Justin on the hard line!
Tim probably had the most exciting moment of the day however. There were some very deep erosion gulleys on a slope. The first few of us, got up straddling these. Tim series, maybe because it was slightly narrower, wasn’t quite so lucky:
Luckily Justin managed to winch him over the top nice and safely so there was no damage done!
While on Woodstock, we did just that and cut up a couple of dead trees, and loaded them into a couple of the cars. There was a heap of wildlife around.
Once the cars were loaded up we headed back to camp, and got the fire going.
On the way back:
So once the fire was going, we got some dinner on, and a few beers. Grimace maybe had a couple too many as I don’t think John and Alisons dogs will ever be the same again, and neither will anyone who was still awake!
At one stage we put a log on the fire, when about 2 minutes later a possum stuck its head outTrav would have been in heaven
there was a massive rush of action and the log was removed, and placed against another tree. The possum then extracted itself, thankfully unharmed.
Sunday dawned and most of us headed out again. Unfortunately by this stage our camera seemed to stop working, so I don’t have any pictures from today which was a shame as we did some great tracks, all of which were slightly harder than Saturdays efforts.
We covered the entire Brisbane Way, part of Rangie drive, Highway hill, Quarry hill up and down and then back to the campsite for some lunch, and to start packing up.
Nearly had a bit of a disaster after lunch when JohnR’s dogs decided to go after a kangaroo! Argh!
We spent a long time walking around, and then driving around looking for them. Eventually they were found about 2 hours later, but some day trippers to the park, who grimace and I had spoken to earlier when we were driving around looking for them. This was lucky and a big relief!
So with the potentially major crisis averted, the last 3 of us headed off, airing up in warwick, and convoying most of the way back.
Anyway we had a really good trip and it was great to catch up with everyone again. Cant wait for the next one.
Cheers
Pete+Sam.

It was so good to get out on a club trip again, been a long time coming. Good to see the camp fire humor is still in full swing, with Stevo still taking a few nana naps during the evening, and Grimace sharing the love with all including JohnR dogs
..................
Thanks to Pete, Justin and Rod for running the trip and getting everyone around the park would have enjoyed a lot more if the fan on the disco hadn't given up half way through the 2nd run, though got me home no issues.
As the title says..........I needed that........I need to get out with mates, go 4WDing, talk rubbish, bust a gut around the campfire, watch my kids have a ball with their mates......and my needs were fulfilled in spades. The Big fella and I met at Nerang Macca's around 6.30 in the morn.....fed kids...then next stop Warwick. Grabbed a few more supplies...headed to the Springs and went and found the camp spot.
Set up and ready to relax
My Oztent Mansion now with side awning
The kids striking a pose
Then it was off for firewood duties before the rest of the crew turned up. I think I set myself a record Trav would be ****ed off as wasnt caught on camera.....three nana naps on the first evening....I blame the 12 hrs of Stella.
The next morning...the camp site had grown.....
Justin demonstrating his ability to punch out number 2's
Whilst Jess and Sam look on and laugh
Now onto some wheelin.......
Here are those that tackled the "poo in my pants section"
Oops
Awww yeah D2a brothers
More wheelin....
Where the force was strong in one...not so much the other 2....where they had to go the shopping trolley way
Packed and ready to go........but wait........
Sung to the song.."Who lets the dogs out".....
To "Are we ever going to see their faces again..no way, get ****ed, **** off"
Even the troops were out looking
Thankfully they were found and it was happy families all round. Again big thanks for a great time....hope Michael and Kylie have recovered from their induction into CAMPFIRE........ even for me there are some images that only a timely death will erase.
Having been out again, it reminded me of how much I love being outdoors with my kids, mates......camping and 4WDing...and reminds me of the adage....Life passes you by whilst you are making plans.....so expect to see me/family out more in the next 12 months.
Regards
Stevo
P.S. Jackjack seems to have forgiven me for not taking him.
Gutted I missed this one!....hopefully back out again soon! ....feeling a little like you did before you got your fix this weekend Stevo!!
Great to see Grimace out wheeling again!!.....DO NOT TAKE IT APART!! ...maybe someone should go take all his tools off him!?

Had a great weekend though it was a pity I had to leave early Sunday morning again. It's mostly fun driving a 33 year old vehicle with no power steering. It is surprising how well it gets around despite that. Just a slight misjudgment of wheel position though and you end up sliding off and hanging over metre deep holes as Pete's photos show. Thanks to all the leaders and spotters for the help and everybody for the company and Justin for the winch out. I didn't get a lot of photos since I was driving, but this is one I like. Pick the new vehicle

Looks like you guys had a great time and I'm glad the Possum escaped unscathed.
The Springs was the first "away" trip for my boys and I when we joined the club and we really wanted to go. Unfortunately the D4 has yet to be sorted for this sort of thing but I'm working on it.
Looks like a great weekend, pised off that I couldn't go but had to work and it's been scarse of late, no choice (was whinging at work all day about it, the old man was gonna stangle me at one point. He'll remeber the next time I have to work a ****ing Saturday I HATE WORKING SATURDAYS).
Leat my furry friend the possum was there to all of your amusement
Trav
Great pics thanks guys, can't wait to get out with you all again soon.
