We were given this plant last year with the comment that it was thought to be an australian exotic.
Does any of you botonists know what it is? :blink:

One of the Port Wine 'types' of Magnolia. There are a range of cultivars. Flowers also vary a bit depending on where they are growing. Do a Google search on "Port Wine Magnolia".

Is there a gardening section on here? Might be the one section AULRO hasn't got!
My vote was a magnolia but I see those in the know have already jumped in :) In September Araluen has some gorgeous displays of them, one of my favourites. (I'm only mentioning that as you're local ;) )
