View Full Version : ONE DRY PUMA...
Drover
18th August 2011, 05:52 AM
Well after 15 weeks, 6 attempts they have finally got it.....
Had lots of rain on the central coast last night, first rain since getting the PUMA back from the 6th attempt to stop the water ingress into the front foot wells.(appropriately named)
I left it out on the driveway last night.... just checked it and "da dar".... dry-no water leaks on either of the foot wells.
It has had every seal replaced from the turret down to the chassis, some twice. The last time they replaced the windscreen panel seal.
Very happy now, just goes to show – perseverance does pay off, warranty works and 3 years is only just enough time..... :D

I'm assuming the title of the thread is the worldwide total?
AFAIK the Defender is the only vehicle I have owned where the factory publish a manual on how to stop the leaks...

Park it on an angle to one side, then the other... then see if it's still dry.

Drive through heavy rain and see if it is still dry!

If there is no water in it,please remove the Land Rover badge and send it back to the factory, because someone obviously stuck it on the wrong vehicle:cool:

At last, you will need an under body water tank now when you go away as you have lost your onboard tanks:cool:

Its probably all pooling inside the bulkhead ready to rust out ;)
You should weigh your Defender - I bet its 20kg (of Sikaflex) heavier

I'm feeling lucky now, already half way, 3 attempts and only leaks on the passengers side. [thumbsupbig]

I had it down to only one leak into the drivers side footwell and sent it off again for its final (!) repair. It came back unfixed and with three new leaks, i'm not kidding. That was nearly a year ago now and it's still in getting "fixed".

I have only just realised this...
but out of my 4 Land Rovers, ALL of them leak. :(
Ambrose leaks so much you have to wear wet weather gear INSIDE the truck! :eek2:

Back in the UK condensation used to freeze on the inside of the sun roof! Couple minutes into the drive it would start defrosting and drip on the missus' right shoulder, never managed to fix this either.
Come to think of it, the latest one a, 2010 Puma 90 is the first one ever (including an "of the dealers shop floor" Disco MY03) not to leak in the drivers or front passenges areas! My last 90 in the UK, a '98 hardtop required me to wear wellies (gumboots) as I had a near constant stream on my right foot during rain. In the UK this is a fairly persistant issue!
The Puma does leak a bit on the LH sliding window... that makes 6 out of 6 over the years!:)
Cheers!
