it looks like a gt22v from a sprinter.

common upgrade for td5 owners looking for a vnt. or if you are lazy and dont mid spending a bit more. just get a tt vnt bolt on

it also has some different style manifold by the looks of it...at first glance i thought it might be a borg warner vnt from there new range of vnt's....bush65 has just put some info up about them recently its worth having a squiz at the article if you get a chance benny...

Looks to be a ‘Twisted Performance’ tuning job. They make some incredible power/performance claims on their web site.
It might be so in the UK, but different fuels, colder ambient temperatures and a less dusty environment all might work over there. Over here in Oz, I’m not so sure. You never know I could be wrong? ;)

Maybe that TD5 is not pushed so hard!

Have a look at Jeemu's dyno run for his 529 HP, 2.5 litre, OM605 Merc diesel.

Thread here on 4btswaps (http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/showthread.php?14238-OM605-Super-Turbo-engine)

Amazing! And all from an indirect injection diesel with no electronics!

I consider the TD5 to be the best engine Land Rover have ever designed and manufactured - despite some silly issues. The have some good engineering and they should be capable of pretty good performance on road.

However building a small displacement engine for extreme road performance involves much wasted effort and expence for a vehicle intended for much offroad use.

Whoa hold on,first Wagoo and now Bush65 is singing the praises of the too small capacity full of electronic's that can't be fixed in the bush Td5.Has someone put something in the water?. Pat

Well yes and no you see bmw is actually vw which is mercedes which is actually jaguar which is ford which is tata motors which is bentley/chrysler which is also chev which is actually holden but wait what came first chev or holden, jeep, dodge and kia which is also nissan, toyota, great wall, sanyong, mahindrah which is also sub company of ferrari etc etc etc
Now with all seriousness I think bmw helped design the motor for land rover and used similar designed motors in there own range but you will find the td5 motor land rover specific....i may be wrong would like to know more about it though

Read my post again, without reading something else in between the lines. Remember also which other engines Land Rover has actually designed and manufactured, before the TD5 - those are the benchmarks I was referring to.

My point was (staying on topic with OP) that the TD5 was well engineered and should stand up to considerable power upgrade providing properly done without going to silly rpm.

The 300Tdi linage goes well back to much earlier engines, while the TD5 was a new design with a great deal of thought given to it - and a very few simple things that are not so good, as we all know.

Sorry I don't recall, but I did post a link to a long thread that has a lot of detail.

I'm well aware of that rat rod.

I haven't looked at the build thread for a long time, but IIRC the conrod is the support for the steering column (not hanging off it.

Also check the (dummy) chain driven crank handle on the side.

There is one somewhere on the net I think but I havnt looked at there videos for.awhile they also have a website with photos and info...there is a video of them injecting some description of gas into the compressor whilst at full boost on a dyno and the thing almost takes off and sounds like it reved way past what a diesel usually does :o

Bush65 I am asuming that the motor used in the rat rod is a 5.9L 6cyl cummins 6bt? Do you have any specs on it or know anything off the top of your head ?

why doesn't australia have these sort of things ? :( oh that's right there's 2 reasons (maybe alot more) 1.there's to many do-gooders out there that are fun nazi's and 2.australia has no industries like america and other countrys do for these sort of things! its a shame really....

Probably nitrous.

From memory it is a 3.9 litre, 4 cyl, cummins 4BT. Welderup posted his build thread on a 4BT (not 6BT) forum.

Correction to my previous post:
Def nitrous

Not 3.9 litre 4cyl, but 5.9 litre 6 cyl.

That twisted td5 is crazy...they have all the goodies.

I have the full gale force package on my 110 which is different to this as retains factory turbo as it was importeted from the UK. It makes such a difference as it is unlike any other landy I've ever driven it is just effortless but when u put your foot down it just keeps pulling away....

The issues everyone raises about ambient temp and fuel quality have not had any adverse effects in over 50000kms yet fingers crossed :)

Thanks Josh,
Great to hear some feedback from someone who has actually gone out and done it. Gives me a renewed confidence and optimism with these products. I’ll defiantly be revisiting their website with a more open mind next time.
Onward and upward.

Your correct john welderup also have a 4bt twin turbo from what I can gather and its in another rat rod from memory but on the one discussed I asumed it was a 6cyl only by the number of injector rails...john do you recon the 4bt and 6bt are as strong as the 4bd1 etc etc?

There is a system out there..... this is cut and paste from the guy

i have tried it with a 50/50 blend of water and methanol and didnt really see a big power difference but the egt's went way down so it can get more diesel put into now :)

with just water the EGT sits on 590.. with methanol and water 480 holding it flat in top gear going up hill.

with the chip on and no water or anything the exhaust went up to 640 same test place :) power from the chip with custom tune is about 60% over standard but still need to do more tuning soon with the water injection

Those who push their 4/6BT's need to up the diameter of head studs to the stock dia of 4BD1 head bolts. When pushed further they also have kits to increase head studs even further.

They also increase the dia of main bearing cap bolts. When I ordered APR studs for my 4BD1T, I also wanted replacements for the mains but was told they don't make any that large (16mm dia) - so I assume 4/6BD's have smaller mains than that.

A 4BD1 will happily rev much higher than the 4BT.

I would love to see a 6BD1T built up like some of these 6BTs... :D
