Hi all
Just wondering how you tell the difference between the Lt77 gearbox and the R380. As i have a 95 Defender and they changed from the Lt77 to theR380 in 1995. My defender has a salsbury diff in the ass, if this helps.:)

Not sure if they are different, but the 77 has reverse gear to the left and forward up beside 1st.

They actually changed in 94 when the 300Tdi was introduced.

The R380 is 30mm longer than the LT77. If you want to use your current prop shafts in a conversion, you can get a short bellhousing R380 from Ashcrofts in the UK. Not cheap to import but a reliable factory rebuilt one. Ashcroft Transmissions - Short Bellhousing R380 (http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=157)
