Dont know about the price but its a very good damper, especially if you have larger than standard tyres.

Perhaps give Opposite Lock a call and see how much they are supposed to be. It doesnt sound a long way out to me.

God thinking Jon.
I could go home via an OL store in Mitcham.

Excellent damper with larger tyres.

And the RTC function is great in sand and slop

Perhaps you could let us know the OL price. After my recent CSR trip and after 4 years, mine has sprung a leak:(. Im seriously tempted to replace it with the same again.

I am looking at the same product from here
4WD1.com - Land Rover Defender Shock Absorbers, Suspension & Accessories (http://www.4wd1.com/Defender.htm)

Free delivery over $100.
Haven't used them before though.
Someone else may be able to comment?

Cheers,
Paul.

4wd1.com also do them for $165, they are pretty much the biggest Tough Dog dealer and have a real shop and garage.

RTC Dampners are very overated. Tough dog/Rancho also poor quality shocks.

A decent 'normal' one is your best bet. Even OME make a pretty decent steering dampner.

If you want the best check out King shocks or Fox.

I got a bloody good run out of my RTC on my disco...and they are good however they can easily hide a lot of things wrong in your steering so make sure bushes are up to scratch and everything is straight etc before fiting.

Also bought from 4wd.1 and have since bought a iron man big bore steering damper from them also...they are a great company to deal with!!

That is true tuffrangie! However its easier said than done getting those shocks because after litterally over 30 emails to shock companys around the world I had no success :( I wanted either bilstein 7100 remote resivor, fox emulsion 2.0,racerunner or kings but USA does not want to respond to such orders  (yes they can be purchased in australia but at triple the cost) so I ended up going with rancho due to being cheap, big and when it comes down to it hardly any of us are racing...

Rancho dont need to be raced to fade - unfortunately...
Even a leisurely drive can fade them quickly.

And they never come back.

i had a tough dog rtc damper on my defender for 22 months and was great however it has just stuffed up and locks up in the middle of its travel.

all tough dog products come with a 2 year warranty however the don't want to cover my damper. not happy at all! won't buy tough dog again!

if i have to buy a new one i will probably get a terrafirma rtc damper. cheep enough and i have dealt with this sight before and is really good.

Terrafirma RTC return to centre Steering Damper - Defender Fitment Only (http://www.mm-4x4.com/terrafirma-rtc-return-to-centre-steering-damper---defender-fitment-only-3458-p.asp)

good luck with your rancho damper!

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Mids , I'll check if Terrafirma do one for a County

I am just about to fit 4 x new Bilsteins and the two existing ones fitted to rear are Monroes.

I might just fit one of those old rear ones

The two best places to buy proper shocks is:
Filthy Motorsports | Off-Road Parts and Accessories (http://Www.filthymotorsports.com)
eCommerce Website Design - eCommerce Web Development - Retail/B2B/Automotive - San Diego, CA (http://Www.downsouthmotorsports.com)

At 290 bucks a shock they smash any other bolt in shock or dampener on the market that is bolt in

I put an OEM aka Boge damper on my County a few weeks ago. It also cost around $165 but I can't find the receipt to confirm price. Feels very good!

Having an LSD in the front means return to centre is quick anyway :)

That is why I always make initial contact at least by telephone, even if it has to be in the wee small hours. That way I can explain exactly what I want and ask any questions all in one go,no need for back and forward emails etc.And I have bought quite a lot of bits for my Landies over the years from the U.K and bits for my Landies and my Harley from the U.S.

Funnily enough I find dealing with America for motorbike, 4wd and RC parts a much more pleasant and cheaper experience and more often than not they are more knowledgeable too. I used to work in a 4WD shop until it closed so I do feel for the local retailer, but they really need to lift their game in knowledge and service.

I know quite a few people that have bought from down south without any troubles.

On average how much for a call to the UK ?

Loubrey
7th September 2011, 08:23 AM
The best way to call the UK is Skype (computer to UK landline). Put $10 on a Skype account and call the UK for under 5 cents per minute. The money won't expire and you'll be able to use it for future calls untill the money on the account runs out. Obviously you can call anywhere in the world, but UK and USA is by far the cheapest.

The other option is a phone card, but you still pay for the local call and the card charge...

Cheers!
