TD5 - Check your oil filter

Had a look round the engine bay today to try and track down an oil leak that started on the CSR and has been getting progressively worse.

For some reason I checked to see if the oil filter was tight, it wasn't!

It's a waiting game now to see if I get anymore leakage:)

Funny thing is I had the same problem just a couple of weeks ago, I generally do it up as tight as I can as I just can't get my filter clamp to turn in such a tight area on the TD5.
Also found out one of the rotor filter bolts has stripped from the main housing so now I have to get it helicoiled.:mad:

I also had an oil leak around the filter area.My mechanic is a very experienced landy bloke and diagnosed on the 300TDI that an O ring in the filter assembly was the culprit.Seems this O ring is in the area that houses the oil cooler sensor or something.Showed me a very flat piece of what resembled a washer rather than O ring.
New one is fitted together with4steering ball joints and new panhard bushes
KGB is now rejuvenated

if you are using ryco filters.......they had a bad batch last year......
they were not sealing properly at the crimp.....and hence leaking.......

they have been rectified since........but if you get one of the old ones......

Thanks, always good to know these things. Mines a genuine LR one this time, normally a coopers!

never had any problems with coopers.......


was the seal lubed prior to fitting the filter........?

just watch,, seen them leak from been to tight aswell, i spin them on till seal touch, then just tighten about another 1/2 - 3/4 of a tern, only one had leak is when i didint tighten that way:angel:

Not sure to be honest. I always do when I do my own servicing and have never had a problem. Last time though LR garage did it as I was under the pump with work before I went on my trip.
