Hi all,
Just a question of the operation of Hill Descent control and does it work for the "Old Stall Recovery" method?
Yes I know you won't actually stall the Auto but progess can lead to the possibly dangerous action of having reverse down a very steep incline. Sometimes wheel slip is a common issue with lost of steerage.
So does Hill Descent actually work in this instance?
I've had a couple of instances where bystanders have witnessed my wheels locked and just sliding with HDC being used.

HDC does work in reverse...

...just remember to keep your feet off the pedals!

BTW - If you let an auto roll backwards, you can stall it. ;)

I must work out how to actually adjust the speed on the HDC, it's one of the things I've never actually fathomed out, other than mine is set quite high which has led to the occasional :o moment.

I've stalled mine trying to go forwards - several times on one occasion.

One the D4 you use the cruise control buttons to set the speed. The display will also show what speed you have set.

I stalled the 2.7 a couple of times attempting big red in the simpson. I slowly ground to a halt near the top and she stalled. Cheers Chris

You need to use the +/- switch on the cruise control. I'm sure you'll be able to work out which way the target speed goes when using it... ;)

D4 will show you what speed you are doing. Only Range Rover (10MY onwards) shows you what speed HDC is set at.

HDC does seem to work in reverse but it always seems too fast to me. Must be because you are going backwards and psychologically don't feel you have the same control.
I nearly put a hole in my seat one time as my sphincter contracted going down a steep bit backwards:o.

How fast were you at a restart, full boost up a sand hill then stall, turbos just love it, not. :(

Hill decent works great in reverse. I recently used it on a steep section of clay/mud where I couldn't get to top of a track and had to reverse down. A little slip but I used the accelerator just ever so gently and the HDC took care of the rest with steering too.
use the +/- cruise control to alter speed of HDC as mentioned by others works well too.

Hi
I reversed down a rather steep, wet and muddy track yesterday.
I put in on HDC (low range with reverse), but it was too fast. I ended up manually braking all the way down.
I tried to use the cruise control to slow it down, but that did not slow it.
Is the reverse HDC faster than HDC in 1st and low range?
What the experience of the group?
many thanks

According to this - https://s3.caradvice.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Discovery410MY-TechSpecs.pdf - reverse gear is about the same as about 1.5 gear! ;)
