I like messing around modifying my toys.
This thread is for any modifications I do to my boat,Deckem.
Now I have used the boat a few times,I have a pretty good idea of how I want to fit a new VHF,stereo/speakers,the fire extinguisher,Epirb and store flares/emergency gear.
Currently the VHF is mounted where it does get spray on it with the bimini open,it failed on my maiden voyage.
I have no stereo, and there isnt much room to fit one in a protected area.
I asked my Bro,who is a cabinet maker to build to cupboard boxes,to go inside the bow area. The idea is to fit the VHF and stereo/speakers into the faces of the cupboards. One cupboard will be for emergency gear only, the flares, the Epirb on the inside of the door, mobile phones etc.It will be a fairly dry area, the other cupboard will be for keeping stuff dry for the trip,ie clothes etc.The remaining void behind the cupboards will be for the storage of lifejackets.
I will probably cover them in carpet.

Primer and sealer for timber. 2-pack. All my boatie/yachtie mates swear by the stuff. You mix equal parts of the base and the activator. I just came in from everduring my deck - it took 1.5L each of base and activator to do the entire deck properly (2 thick coats wet on wet) - both sides - and especially the edges....

The everdure will make sure the timber does not get waterlogged.

I will be carpeting over the top.

Hi Ben
I spoke to my Bro last nite,he said the Evedure is very good, they use it on their marine jobs.
He also pointed out its overkill for where Im using the ply, suggested using a good quality spraying enamel 50% thinners mix for a few coats, then a couple of normal coats.
Thoughts???

Your wood Andy (pun intended ;)) - so your choice.

If it was me I would go the everdure, but then I like overkill.

Should do.

However Everdure is different to a paint/varnish. It is like water and seems to soak right into the timber. That is apparently why you coat it wet on wet - so it soaks in far enough.

But given you have a windscreen and canopy it should stay fairly dry normally?

The wettest it would get under there is if I sink her:o:o:o
Other than that hosing out after an outing.
Thinking I will only put the carpet on the 2 faces that will cop UV,the rest of the marine ply would look good with the floor coating.
If and when I need to replace the deck marine ply,I wouldnt hesitate to coat that in Everdure, its in a lot more exposed area.
Wheres your pics in your thead:p:p:p:p
