View Full Version : Inertia Reel Seat Belts - 101

Has any one replaced the standard 101 lap sash seat belts with inertia reel seat belts?
If so can you describe where you mounted the inertia reel and what mods are needed and where you mounted the shoulder bit up on the roll bar - I assume the little cross reinforcing pipe on the roll bar is the best spot - does it need reinforcing and how did you do it?
Pictures would be great.
I am going to put some D2 seats in my 101 and I will need to put in inertia belts first.
Thanks

I think AJ has them in his. If not, I seem to remember them being three point.
Hey, Sleepy. Up for a trip to Montrose to take pictures for Gary?
What about Cooee's old 101? Did that have inertia reel seat belts?
It's a day trip for me to visit (for photo taking) but there is a very nice pub nearby.

I'm interested in this also. Still a long way off this for mine but would like to have these for when the truck is rego'd.
Garry, how will you go for head room with the D2 seasts in?

Should be Ok - I will take the D2 mounts off which raise the seat quite high and use the 101 bases (a little work might be required). I understand Defender seats fit OK and the D2 seats are as thin in the centres but have a bit more padding in the sides - the seats are a bit wider though but will fit in.

Working this weekend Mick but keen on a trip over.
I've got inertia reels in mine. Bit different to Ron's.
I'm not 100% happy with the mounting , it is a bit high.
I'll get some photos for you soon Garry. (It's pitch black outside, got a thunderstorm overhead.)

Thanks Ron - your top mount is a bit lower than I was expecting - thought it might gave been up on the tube cross piece - maybe a bit too high.
Mrs H and Sleepy - pics of other alternatives would be good if not too much trouble.
Cheers

It all works OK.
The pics dont show the belt in its normal position across the body.
The reel position is not that important, but the location of the of the change of direction loop is and the postion of it on my 101 is perfect as it is just above shoulder high.
The other important bit is the catch for the belt being on stiff wire cable to keep it in position in the narrow space between the engine cover and the seat.
I think it picks up on the original seat belt holes.
The little hook to hold the seat belt when not in use is a god send.
The seats I have in my 101 are not from a landrover, but are after market items which I suspect to be for a defender.
The seats work well too, but the seating position is slightly forward of the standard seats.
the seats will fold forward on the back rests and allow to keep maps and small objects behind the seat with easy access.

Not the sexiest of photos but I hope you get the idea.

Top mounting on mine uses the horizontal brace of the roll bar. (Note: the other seatbelt you can see in the first photo is for the little jump seat where the spare wheel normally goes)
For me (I'm about 5'11") it is mounted too high and rubs on my neck.
My seats are old, well worn, recaros (with cheapo covers to cover all the holes:p) Not sure on the position compared to standard, but I find them very comfy. :D

Hey sleepy
Whats the chances of getting some pics of the jump seat and seat belt arrangement.
What sort of seat is being used for the jump seat.
It is something I havent though about.
When I get my big rubber fitted, dont know if the spare will fit in the normal place.
A jump seat in that space is a fantastic idea.

No worries Ron, give me a day or so for the pics. It is only a little fixed seat with about an inch of foam, not that comfy but does the job.
I reckon the dicky seats out of a Disco 1 would be ideal as they fold up as well. I'll take some photos of my Disco 1 seats for comparison also.
I'll post it all up in my thread so as not to drift this thread of Garry's.

I have no problem if the thread drifts - is all good stuff.
Ron - maybe a use for that nice spare seat you have.
Thanks for all the pics - a couple of plates welded to the roll bar will work well.
Cheers

Anyway here is my Dickie seat.

The seat is fixed, although the back rest pivots (flips?) at the top , to create a high back. (pic 2 & 3)
Inertia reel mounted to the mounting bracket and top set belt mount to roll bar. The seat belt catch is mounted in same hole as driver.
I little crude but ok for short hops. Not sure I'd like to go offroading and have someone there.

Scratch my idea about D1 rear seats. They have mountings on the top and bottom. (Was thinking of turning the missus Disco back into a 5 seater:whistling:)

You may notice the drivers side has had a modification to the seat position, that is why the spare wheel is on the back

Thanks for that - different again - how does the belt fit over the shoulder given the top position is further back than the others.
