A mate is looking for a bull bar for his 2010 Puma. Needs to be winch compatible and preferably able to take the Hayman Reece tow bar sleeve so that if can be fitted with a front tow ball if required. Any ideas or recommendations on models?

Unsure about the front towbar compatibility but I used Gordon down at Opposite Lock Rockdale. He's a Defender driver himself and the OL bullbar does the job for me. Good space between the bar and the lights/ bodywork. Good visibility of the corners when parking.

I was planning on getting a simple bolt on A bar for my puma but have had a hard time finding one due to the uk outlawing them.
I have now decided to go with a tubular winch bar. I have found a fair few; the main three are britpart, shadow (first four) and terrafirma:

I like the britpart the best as the winch shelf sits outt past the bar allowing the A bar to sit closer to the grill compared with the other models. The A bar has a more angled shape which I prefer compared to the other two which are rounded.
Cant say I have found any with front tow hitchs, may need to add one yourself.

I have the X Rox bar on my puma.
It is not everyone's cup of tea though.

I don't think you find a manufactured bar that has a tow hitch in it. I think they would be considered illegal. You would probably have to fabricate something for yourself.
I have a TJM commercial winch bar which seems good, classic lines and not too heavy. The only grip I have is the indicators can get punched out of their mount and broken if you happen to plough into mud, or maybe water.

This is what you want, but as 'newhue' said above, you'll have to fabricate it yourself.

Powerful 4x4 are the only ones that allow a winch and a towball but they dont list them on the website for the Defender.

depending on what look your really after this is ours its actually a Mantec winch bar..the A frame on it was custom built.
but I wanted a bar that looked much like the original, and this was it just had to adapt the A-bar that we had on the original.

This is the A frame on the original bumper bar so you can see the profile is much the same

This is the bar I have on my Puma.
I bought it from Dungog Motors at the NSW Landy Expo, but I can not tell you the brand as the box was destroyed in the deluge.

Mine's the Front Runner sold by Opposite Lock. I had a few prerequisites which included:
· Enough frontal protection against the wildlife in the Pilbara
· Holes for the Hi-Lift adapter
· A steering guard that is compatible and integrates with the bulbar
· Reasonable resemblance of the original designed bumper
· Radio, sand flag and driving light mounting tabs
· Recovery point options at the chassis mounts
While most brands meet these requirements I’ve personally steered away from tubular bars (great looks but lack of protection) and the ARB and TJM ones purely because they’ve completely veered away from Land Rover’s original rounded corners.
The attached photo was taken a week ago and the bar has to date survived 2 Euro strikes (smallish Pilbara roo’s) and a road train wheel chock that came bouncing my way after falling off the truck on the Great Northern Highway (lost a bit of paint on the left corner of the bar on that one!)
I can't immagine you guys in the cities loving this one for looks, but in terms of protection it's proved itself.

I have similar sentiments :)
Is the steering guard also supplied by Front Runner/Opposite Lock?

Dave,
Yes, they have a steel one that attaches to the tubular guard already there and the two piece aluminium one I've got that replaces the tubular arrangement and slots into recesses in the bullbar.
I first had this combination back in 1996 on a 300Tdi that survived a number of animal strikes and buried tree stumps while I worked in Central Africa.

This is quite interesting as I went through the same a few weeks ago.
I believe the front runner bar is no longer available but stand to be corrected. I decided to go with the new ARB bar by default as i thought the others were average and wanted all the other fruit, ie tabs for lights antennaes etc .
To my suprise the ARB bar was the old style (not the smiley face) but has about 50-60mm more extention on the mounts to clear the grill. not particularly happy as it resembles a snow plough, the only good thing was that my M10000 dropped in no hassles. By the way it was ordered with the new part number.

Bobby (coneofsilence) recently bought a bullbar from OL that looks just little different from mine (newer design?). If they don't do the FR one anymore, they've got a very similar one in house which might still not be a bad option.

Hello All,
Coneofsilence's bullbar is an Outback Accessories brand, made in Perth
outbackaccessories.com.au - Home (http://outbackj.fu8.com/index.php)
Loubrey, Yours is the Dolium or Frontrunner one
LR Def Bullbar (To Order Only) - Dolium Pty Ltd (http://www.dolium.com.au/Retail_Catalogue_page/LRBBR_item.html'ref_cat_id=Land_Rover_Accessories)
Opposite Lock are distribuitors for both brands, which makes it confusing (it confused me).
After much deliberation between the 2 bars I have recently ordered the Outback Accessories bar. Reasons, looks like it will have enough room for me to keep my light guards and it is made in Australia...
I will post a pic when it is fitted.
Cheers

Bought the TJM bar, relatively pleased, mounts the winch above or below the main bar, very strong, standard look, mounting holes for UHF AE and lamps. However, the jacking points wont take the OE jack, well not enough of it anyway, so you will need the hi lift and adaptor, pushes the cost up by $200.... or gives you the excuse youve been waiting for to get one!

After much searching, I have recently done this. All Bull Bars on the market will not fit the SVX. Mulgo (aka Daniel) did some modifications and ended up with...well the pictures tell the story. Mulgo did a great job.

It certainly is. It has an amazing light out put - so very white. In fact, when you turn off the light bar, you begin to wonder why my normal lights on high beam look so dull and yellow in comparison. :p

For my money Pat, having it sourced, then modified to suit the SVX, re-powder coated, then having it fitted (with all the mucking around making it fit), and some other adjustments Daniel did to my doors that Landrover didn't bother to fix, it was very good value. Each to their own I guess.
I am a repeat and very happy customer.

I wasn't meaning to be negative in any way but my X-Tech has SVX style lights and MM have a bar that is a straight up fit.Like all UK suppliers they are very good to work with. Pat
