One Extreme Modification!

In an effort to keep this forum active due to the fact that there hasn't been a post in over 30 days,I want to describe how I recently performed the super extreme modification to my series Landy of replacing the plain single slot self tapping screws that attach my fuse box to the firewall with Philips head screws.
Step 1. Remove plain screws by inserting the tip of a suitable plain screw driver into the head of the screw and turn in an anticlockwise direction until screw falls on the floor.
Step 2, Install new, or used philips head screws of the same size and type thread by inserting the tip of a suitable philips head screw driver into the head of the screw and turn in a clockwise direction until you can turn no more, or strip the thread in the thin sheetmetal of the firewall, in which case you repeat both steps 1 and 2 with a little more finess and larger screws.

Call that a modification. Still using the same old technology, with a different torqing device.

I crunched the numbers, and run it past an engineer. After 6 months of letters and to-ing and fro-ing, he finally signed off on my cable tie. Sweet.

Unfortuanately, now it is no longer elligible for Historic Rego:(

cable tie,?, well aren't we all la-di-dah with newfangled technology. You sir are an affront to anoraks everywhere.

You should have used fencing wire (if it needed to carry an earth) or baling twine (if you wanted it to insulate)

look deep into your soul, you know that a true empirical restorationalist would have known that and done so.

(and you could have kept your historic rego)

Sorry if this is a bit too technical CC.but then again this is the Extreme Zone.
but to requalify for historic reg, couldn't you simply replace the modern plastic cable tie with a bit of 25 year old tie wire?

The extra power I get from the cable tie tuned to 28PSI, over forced induction fencing wire is phenonminal.

A true Street Sleeper my 4 cyl buzz box. Blew the doors off a mobility scooter coming out of Wynnum Bowls club just yesterday.

Maybe if you had of installed a flux capacitor as well we could have called it extreme. It could have been the worlds first series Landrover flux driven time machine sent back 25 years for a strand of fencing wire

I am sure there are one or two series Landys out there that could, but I have never seen one that would hit the requisite 88mph to achieve the feat.:wasntme:

Or am I getting confused with go faster pills?

Oh for a soft top 88" series one, I could practice my knots and my wire tie off's all day long!

Does anyone know if I can use these instead of philips head screws? I don't really want to have to buy 2 philips screws especially for the job.

No no no, Posidrives don't give the feel for when a thread is about to strip, so you'll likely strip them every time, and then have to start fresh and drill 2 new holes in the firewall.
I may describe how to drill the holes in a separate thread, but we probably should have a forum titled 'Advanced Extreme Zone' to do such a thread justice.

nahh that shouldnt matter, once the threads strip just back up half a turn for thread relief in the same way as you do for a bolt....
