It looks like a perch but I am not going to say golden perch as they are greener and with the yello only on the belly (aka yellow belly).

It could be a goldfish (carp).

Where did you catch it? What did you catch it on?

I think it might be a roach.

it's a juvenile golden perch, (Macquaria ambigua) sometimes referred to as yellow belly or callop. it's an australian native fresh water fish commonly found in the murray and darling river systems.

It is a Tench, introduced species. Just pulled research nets NW of Melb this morning which had 8 of the same.

Yes, definitely an introduced Tench (Tinca tinca). It can be problematic at times to identify fish from photos because the fins may not be well displayed and they are often very diagnostic. It is clearly not a European Carp, Goldfish or native Golden Perch as these three species all have a dorsal fin that runs much further along the body. The tail fin on the Carp and Goldfish is moderately forked while on Golden perch it is more rounded. It is nearly square (ie a straight line) on a Tench.

KarlBAn exotic. Good thing Dusty66 pulled it out of our acquatic habitat! :)

Now if we could only get all the carp out of our waterways!

Yep an exotic! These are the kinds of ferals we need to be concerned with. Not the ones with dreadlocks and the backside out of their trousers.
