G'day there guys, new to all this, but I have a 1952 80in in original and complete condition, so much so that I am about to put it thru rego,
however the one thing missing and I can't find anywhere is the front parking/clearance lamps on the guards, as opposed to the the ones below the windscreen on earlier models. They appear to be glass, with a chrome surround that slips into a rubber boot, I can put later model plastic ones on but I'd like to try and keep it original, any ideas on where I can track some of these lights down is greatly appreciated.

Lucas 489 https://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/products/52139-sidelamp-model-lucas-l489-1 a little bit pricey although you may find them on ebay. They were also fitted to Morris Minor and some 1950s Wolseley.

Also at Holdens http://www.holden.co.uk/displayproduct.asp'sg=1&pgCode=010&sgName=Electrical&pgName=Lighting&agCode=0050&agName=Side+Lamps&pCode=L489/52139

There are a pair of NOS lens and chrome surround on ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NOS-LUCAS-L489-LANDROVER-MG-ASTON-MARTIN-SUNBEAM-RILEY-/260873805922?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cbd4a6062

You can then use the Lucas 575008 bulb holder 576105 rubber boot or you can look for L594 body which is far more common and available cheaper then fit the L489 lens etc.

Thanks for your help, now I know what I'm looking for!You should also try contacting Anthony Pearson "Classic and Vintage Bulbs (http://www.classicandvintagebulbs.com/)" in Adelaide. He often has rare Lucas fittings cheaper than the UK shops.

He also manufactures halogen bulbs to fit the original BPF headlamp fittings, that don't put any more current through the wiring than the original incandesant globes. Gives you the original look and light that doesn't dribble onto the ground just in front of the bumper bar.

Thanks for that contact Arthur! :BigThumb:

The 501B are the correct "D" Lamps for the 80" in Australia, the 503 style was a UK spec thing for later 80" and 86" when the UK authorities specified a minimum area of red for the tail lamp, for which the "D" lamp with bar was too small.

The L488 lamps are frequently used in place of the L489 on S1 (and SII) because of their easier and cheaper availability but are incorrect to the rivet counters (IIRC 468 rivets) The bodies and rubber boots are interchangeable.

. They were also fitted to Morris Minor and some 1950s Wolseley.

They were also standard fitment on the front a number of the older Austin of England models of the 50s (e.g. A30, A40) - not that they would be any easier to find.......

On a similar note can anyone point me towards the bulkhead parking lights? I will have to replace mine when the time comes and they only seem to get more expensive so may as well take advantage of the weak pound and pick them up now.
