Chassis rust protection

Have just about finished painting the outside of my repaired chassis, and want to do something about the inside before starting to bolt things on.

What's the best for this? I have read about fish oil, lanolin and various branded products, but would be keen to hear from someone who has done it.

What to use and how?

Hi there

When I repaired the rear cross member of the series one Fire Engine I used fish oil

You buy the presurised cans of fisholene (not to sure of the spelling) from any local auto parts store and sprayed it into the rear cross members after repairs and this will potentially give it a barrier to prevent any aditional damage.

I use Penetrol - it was the only product that worked for me on an outdoor test piece experiment, which lasted 12 months,

On all of mine I clean out the rails best you can with water, let it dry in the hot sun then using a karo wash gun at high pressure pump about 4 litters of fish oil in through every hole you can find, roll the chasses over part way through.
Make sure you prep and paint chassis first as oil will run out for many months if not years, smell goes away after 1 or 2.
Very popular with cats.

For areas where i can get good access I use cold galvanising spray. This will provide a longer protection period than fish oil. There is no reason why you could not use both though.

You could always go the "environmentally safe way" and pump in used diesel engine oil!! ..... works really good:whistling:
