so I was poking around on the RRC (94' 3.9)
I noticed a "timing advance processor" under the dash.
At least thats what I think it is after google searches.

Has info as follows printed on it:
SprintD MKII
0-90(ohm)MV
SGA7642
AEB - Italy

So however stupid this may sound, is this a timing advance processor?
Does it, as it seems to suggest on google advance the timing when running on LPG?

I can't find any documentation and wondered how it actually works.
I assume when its switched from petrol to LPG the box of trick kicks in and adjust the timing somehow?

I wondered if it is dependant on other factors, like RPM, temperature etc?

Photo might be a good idea - however the 0-90 bit makes me think that it's only something to do with fuel sender adjustments. ( ie so the normal petrol gauge can read the gas level correctly after switchover)

RPi Engineering - V8 Engines (http://www.v8engines.com/faq-lpg-ign.htm#advance-ret)

Thats one of the half decent versions that seem to work well on rover v8's.

The short and rough explanation is the other way around: You set the engine up for LPG , and when you switch to petrol, the box interrupts the signal to the amplifier ( that thread re bosch amp..) and then sends it's own signal just a bit later - fooling the engine into thinking the timing is set for petrol. It's independent of the EFI, usually mounted in the engine bay and has only 4 or 5 wires to connect.

It's a gauge adaptor. When you switch from petrol to gas it should take the sender output from the gas tank and make it read on the OEM dash gauge.

For there to be an advance processor it needs to replace the ignition amp, or at least connect between it and the coil or dissy pickup.

thanks, I only just noticed I didnt get the email?
oh well....

I know the petrol gauge does not show the LPG level stays at petrol level all the time.
It has a small led gauge with x5 LED's, 4 green 1 red. Its a combined gauge and switch to flick to LPG and back.
I'm sure when I bought it I was told that it switches itself from peterol to LPG once it gets warm enough but I don't think it ever has.
*edit, for some odd reason it backfired today, it very rarely backfires, it appeared to be for no apparent reason. I was at lights in neutral, moved to drive, slowly accelerated, then huge bang, blew one of the breather hoses off!
That was it didn't do it again.

OK it's not the changeover type of adaptor but probably the changeover relay for dual fuel switching.

As for the backfire check your timing setting and your plugs are clean and gapped to 0.7mm. More gap or rounded electrodes will increase backfiring under load.

I really should check the timing anyway, 10 BTDC isn't it?
or more if i run 99% on LPG?

10 or 12, depends on the dissy advance curve a bit. Try 12 and only use premium petrol.
