Hi everyone,
I was having a look at the tank on my 110 ute and trying to track down the leak.
Is the tank aluminium with a steel bash plate attached underneath?
It does look that case where the two layers have rusted apart as in the picture.

Is this a common fault for defender tanks? And what is the best way to repair?
When the tank was installed with diesel it wasnt that small a leak, seemed about 15cm diameter over a few days.

On a similar note are there any long range tanks that will fit in place of the original?
Thanks for your feedback,
Joe

Hi

On my 300TDi SW it's a steel bash plate covering a steel tank and should seperate.

When mine leaked it was from little stones/gravel/sand that had worked their way between the tank and plate, got caught in that dimple on the bottom and wore a hole in the tank.
When I replaced the tank I drilled a large hole in that dimple to allow an exit point for any caught debris. Time will tell.

You should be able to get the tank patched for about $120.

Just replace the tank. Once you disect the skid plate from the tank you'll see why.
Mine started dripping and a week later dumped half a tank all over my driveway.
