Have been runing the pre-purchase questions for a few days, there is a demonstator D4 se 3.0 TDV6 with eDiff and ICE but no sat nav etc.

It seems that you cant run OziExplorer or off road navigator software on the OEM system. In another thread people are talking about interfacing after market GPS software into the OEM system. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/140849-d4-no-nav-nav.html

Then you have reversing cameras etc. Have already been told to get ice audio system.

Any concensus on what to have? And is it possible to use after market nav stuff through the OEM system if you don't have the reversing camera etc?

Hi Lotz-A,
If you purchase the vehicle with Sat Nav there is at the moment no way of interfacing other mapping (Ozi-explorer for instance) software on that system.
Also with the mapping software on the factory Nav the update comes out when the mapping company that has been supplied the agreement to supply updates when they want, we were originally told 1-2 times per year & have only seen 2 updates so far.
I was using just a basic Garmin unit, which I thought was very good & no where near the cost of the Nav system.
I have recently misplaced/lost my Garmin unit & am thinking of buying the App for my IPad to use as a mapping system which is made by Hema, there is also another that is called VNS from memory & am reading the pros/cons from each to decide & again it is still cheaper than buying the factory Nav.

If you purchase the vehicle with Sat Nav you can now buy an inverter that can use the factory screen to fit a reversing camera.
The after market unit was something I & a few others have spotted which is fitted into a vehicle in Russia & uses the std basic no Nav system then converts it to a fully functional Nav/PC unit if req.

I did not opt for the Nav system knowing that you couldn't add extra maps if req. You save a small fortune & if need be you can buy :p an "IPad" & it's app if needed & still be in front.

Hope this helps in some way.

Cheers & happy hunting.

Thanks Pete

Is this aftermarket unit Advanced ICE Pty Ltd - Land Rover Video in Motion for Retrofit Camera or Nav (http://www.advancedice.com.au/products2/Diagnostics-Factory-Overrides_9/TV400-RR_2) a similar Nav/camera interface function and is the OEM non-Nav screen satisfactory?

Diana,
Can't speak much about the aftermarket plug in devices as these are sublet to another company to fit/install for the client. (Depending on there wants)

The non Nav screen is very basic, now this depends on what MY you will be purchasing as there are 2 very different units now.

The 10/11MY units are just a monochrome screen with very plain information.
The 12MY screens are different again & are a nice system. What can be added to this again depends what's out there on the market, As a dealer we don't fit anything aftermarket as we are not allowed, but we can just advise our clients to see our subleter (We use a company called Freeway Car Audio) who has had years of experience with our brands.

Hopefully someone that has a 12MY vehicle can photograph the non Nav unit screen (which doing some research comes up as a color touch screen) & post for you to look at to decide.

Cheers.

Is that the 'Tech pak' you guys are talking about?
It is extremely expensive,& after reading reports on it,we decided not to get it.I use the Garmin i have had for a while,it is great.
Also we didn't really want the reversing camera or front park sensors that come with the pack.

the screen on mine is small,and i don't think it is colour,it s MY12.

Also sniegy, anyway to turn off the reversing sensors,as we could in the D2?They are a PITA in long grass!

Just thinking, mine is 2.7,the 3l spec may be different?

Going through the options list.

To use any of the nav camera options you need the HK High Ice audio $1750
the Reversing camera $1050
The Premium nav $3240 Added to the Rev cam =$4290
The Tech pac includes Nav is $4390 but it also includes the front cameras which is $1810 more than rear only so a saving of sorts? So what about the keyless entry?
Tyre pressure ????????

Keyless entry, didn't worry about that, pretty easy to push a button.

As for tyre pressure monitor,it is something i would have considered if ordering a vehicle to my spec from LR,but i took what they had in stock.
You can get good after market one's of these at around half the price of the LR one.
Would well and truely pay for itself, particularly if you will be running 19' tyres that are not cheap.

I think the tech pack also includes the upgraded audio.i remember now,the spec sheet is a bit confusing.

Actually keyless entry is one of those options that I thought were a waste of money at the time of ordering, but in hindsight .......

You still have to fish around for the key fob and push the button to unlock, so I can't see how the remote lock/unlock on its own is a useful feature over and above a simple key. Keyless entry has slowly made more sense - I would probably add it if I were ordering again.

Keyless entry has slowly made more sense - I would probably add it if I were ordering again.I tend to agree, especially when confronted with the vehicle having re-locked due to waiting too long to open a door. Even though the feature can be disabled, I will live with it after having had the vehicle unlocked by a Hyundai remote.

I'm with Gordon & Graeme.

I would order the proximity entry next time. My wife's Hyundai has this(no, it doesn't unlock the Disco Graeme!), and there are many occasions when fishing the keys out is a RPITA when you know it doesn't have to be that way!

Rear air for me too. The whole car is so much cooler so much quicker & somehow it just seems more comfortable all round. I have it on ALL the time!

Regards,

Les.

I'm not in love with the factory sat nav on our MY10, we just got it for the screen to be able to add rear camera later on... Don't make it a deal breaker for the demo model.

Am torn on proximity unlocking - not good in the bush etc when you want to leave your key hidden on the vehicle, but sadly we do a lot more car parks than national parks, juggling baby and shopping... Horses for courses.

Lotz-A-Landies,
Here is my 2c worth.

Keyless Entry - ****
Upgraded Sound - The one in my SE is awsome. Does me.
Rear Air - A must have.
Auto high / low beam - **** maybe. I ordered it with mine and I must admit, for another $400.00 in the scheme of things, its something else I don't have to worry about.
I had an after market reversing camera which works a treat. This is also a must have, but not necessarily as an extra when ordering.

Cheers, Craig
