i`m desperate for some help regarding the breather system on my 300tdi defender. it has just had a complete engine overhaul and is now spewing oil from every joint and seal. the question is, should there be anything inside the main air inlet hose to the turbo, to increase the suction on the breather hose, we have checked a discovery and it has a shroud which sticks out into the airflow but nothing on defender, is it missing?

With the oil filler cap off is the blow by excessive?

Stealing from the technical thread on "Pistons" is it at all possible that the bores were machined/honed, new pistons or rings used without checking ring gap clearances and now you have rebuilt her as a heavy breather????

The scavenge from the rocker cover through the PCV to the intake hose really shouldnt be dealing with excessive pressures. It is simply a polluction control measure. In a tight engine the breather could vent to atmo with minimal drama.

If your engine is breathing heavy post rebuild you need to find out why?

it now , after getting advice from a landy wizard who i owe big time looks like an exhaust valve is shot and the head may have issues yes its got a bit of blow back , spent nearly 13 k and not happy with the guys that did it . keep going back to get it resolved and yes its heading toward dft

Mm my money is on crank case pressure caused by exhaust gasses going by the pistons and filling up the engine with pressure.
This could be because they have not done the pistons right or homed the bores.

But it will blow out your rear main oil seal and dump most of the engine oil on the floor through your bell housing. Believe me had it happen to me
