View Full Version : Muddy water in my air filter box :-(

Hi fellow Landy lovers,
Went to Wanangatta a couple of weekends back. Played in a deep mud puddle which I had to reverse out of. Silly me - mud under the mats, in the back, you know the drill. Anyway thought I'd check the air filter and there are signs of a small amount of water ingress on the intake (turbo) side of the filter. This has got me foxed. Did it come through the filter? How did it get in? I have a Safari snorkel fitted with tight connections but there is a drain valve unit at the lowest point. Wondering if this might be the offending weak point? It has a rubber flap designed to let water out but not in. Doesn't look great though. Any of you had a similar experience or removed this valve?

if it came through the filter you would see it on both sides, probably sneeked in under the lid of the air filter box

Thanks ADE, after posting I spent quite some time reading AULRO and international forums regarding this problem. Seems I am not alone in this experience. I will start with rechecking the air filter box and sealing any drain holes in it. I am seriously considering sealing the water dump valve at the lowest point in the pipe work between the snorkel and the filter box. It was distressing to see signs of muddy water so close to the turbo intake.

no worries, I had a similar thing on my 300tdi disco, had sealed the snorkel etc but a small amount of water got in under the lid, bought an appropiate sized bit of round rubber to seal in. been fine ever since

Check all hoses for splits.. you'll have to remove them and bend then in all directions to be sure. I did this and found a couple of large ones despite regular inspections in-situe.
