so my head lamps have seen better days, stone chipped and cracked.
Is it worth grabbing this sort of thing
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/7-Inch-Xenon-Headlights-Crystal-Semi-Sealed-Universal-Clear-Round-H4-12V-55-60W-/390392895510?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ae53ad816#ht_3351wt_922)
Or better off without the crystal bling? Is it just bling or do the crystal reflectors actually provide better light pattern?

Steve, in theory a good free form reflector should work really well, but I haven't seen a 7" round headlight out light my 7" Cibié Z beams yet.
It helps that the Cibiés are all metal so i can run a little more than 60/55w globes too :D

I am a bit confused - are these HIDs (Xenons) or Halogen - the ad says both but there is no ballast if HIDs.

hmm,
Seems the z beam is no longer made production finished early '90s
They certainly get the wrap though?
Replaced by cibie ece or e code lamps - Can source them for $78US each plus delivery plus globes.
Hmmm

Don't buy headlights from the US, the cut off pattern is all wrong, it's for LHD.
I bought a new Z beam about four years ago to replace one a rock had gone clean through and AFAIK they are still available ?
[edit] Hansa in Melbourne used to be the Oz importer. A mate of mine used to manage Race and Rally and that's who got me the last one I needed, but they've gone belly up now.

Steve,

Have a trawl around the UK suppliers' websites before you make your decision. With the winter gloom over there it is pretty much standard to do serious headlight upgrades to all pre-Td5 Defenders and the options and choices are quite significant.

SWMBO has a wrangler and I have done some research on current options, the notional best choice would be the Britax headlights, available from most truck spares shops. these have a metal reflector and polycarbonate lense.
Headlight Insert | Polycarbonate | 7" 178mm | Xenon HID Upgrade Kits | Britax Automotive Equipment (http://www.britaxae.com.au/am/new_product/xray_vision_headlight_insert.html)

Steve, I just sent an email to a mate at Revolution Racegear on availability of the Cibié headlight.
FWIW the part # of the last Cibié headlight I bought is 082441/60, code 082441.
Hella make a very good H4 headlight too, they may be more available.

Why not use SVX head lights,

Clear poly carbon lense, ADR approved.

With glass lenses and steel reflectors you can use higher wattage globes

I have the hellas. Good, but I need a new one, as I managed to crack one when it got splashed on the canning while hot. (So if someone has any leads on where to buy...)

You're as bad as me Ben, I had a tiny, tiny little hole clean through the lens for three years and they never picked it up at the yearly inspection

If I were fitting Crystals then I would only fit Wipac( which would probably be the SVX lights and are E rated so legal) or locally Narva, which are probably the same thing.
The Wipacs are on UK ebay for about $100 landed while the Narvas are about $150, according to a recent 4WD article I have read.

I have read either here or on another forum that all the Indian ones and others have an imbalance between high and low beams.
