View Full Version : 15inch Rims on Defender?

I'm in the planning stages of rebuilding my defender (not sure where the money is coming from:o). Would a 15 inch rim fit on the defender? Would there be any benefit in having 15 inch rims? If they do fit, I would think there are more tyre choices for 16 inch rims. Currently running Coopers ST 235/85 R16 on Boost alloys. Could you powder coat boost alloys black? That would look cool too. I really just want something a bit wider and taller and black.

15's usually require a shaving of the OD of the disc backing plate to clear, but not all rims require this.

Whats wrong with Wolf 16" rims?? At least they are original LR:)

im running 33 12.5 15 MTZ micky T on my defender. only thing you have to be carful is rubbing on the control arms, which is easy fix by putting in a adjustable drag link bar, if you want to run that size. 10.5 are all fine

i use an old set of 15 inch yoko geolander AT around home after it has been raining as the usual road skinnies chop the grass up. Slightly smaller than the 750's but don't drive far on them other than to the tip. work well and don't dig in.

My son just had his WRX wheels (17x7) powder coated, cost $120 for the sand blasting and $220 for the power coating in pearl white.

Came up a treat.

I have 15x7 inch rims running 31x10.5 15's and work well no probs. Plenty of cheap tyre choices in this size. I'm looking at getting BFG km2's in 33x10.5 15's but quite hard to find and exxy in Aus. Have looked into getting from Tirerack in US an much cheaper.
I like the 15's over the 16's as I feel there is more bag in the profile when the pressure is lowered esp in sand.

I have some 15 x 8 Dynamic rims with 33-12.5/15 KM2s and they don't have any problems with rubbing, although I don't have them on all the time. 15 inch tyres are often around $80 cheaper than 16s.

Drover is that total or per wheel? If its total that I'd very cheap.

I have 15x8 dynamics on my 90 with 35x12.5 r15 tyres. no rubbing with 3 inch lift and -25mm offset.

I have had 33x12.5x15 before they were neg 25 offset. I now have 285/75/16 on neg 25 rims. I prefer the 16's as the road handling is better. If you want no rubbing on 12.5 wide tyre's you will need to run neg 25 offset, the 10.5 or 285/75/16 should be ok with a zero offset.

That's all four, they were done Priority Powder Coating at Tuggerah, NSW. (sand blasting was prior)

They weren’t the cheapest of the quotes but they explained their process that included a dip in the solvent tank that the other companies weren't offering.

Cheers

did you ever find out if those 0 offset 15" rims fit?

I have a good set of 32x11.5xR15s laying around that I'd like to use... .mainly to get my $2000 worth from them! (they did about 10000kms on another vehicle)
