Wow, they must have been in there a long time, they are black!
I usually do mine about every 12 months, it's amazing how much dust they pick up in that time. Better in the filters than in your lungs. A lot of non LR mechanics don't even know they exist, so there would be some around that have never been changed.

That is bad! I change mine annually on the anniversary of my Rangie's purchase! At the same time I grease her nipples, rotate her tyres, bleed the brakes and give the diffs and tranny some new fluids!
It's her birthday after all!
Cheers

I give mine a bit of a touchup with a low powered vacuum cleaner then soak them overnight (filter- side down) in a small square plastic washing tub using about a tablespoon of wool detergent and 4L of water. Give them a bit of a shake occasionally..a lot of the dirt drops out.
Then press them dry in a piece of old towling and let them air dry. They get a bit fragile when wet so handle carefully. Once they're dry -no worries... The trick is not to let them get too dirty...
I have a set of 'new' replacements for 'just in case' ...have been recycling the current ones however for three years:twisted:

Yep, normally use ebay.co.uk I thought I would just check. But for 15pounds delivered I am not going to complain.

They are pretty easily washed out laundry detergent and a quick hit with a hose does the trick
Replace your Plenum filter at the same time.
I always look at P38s and consider the vehicle to be well maintained if the Plenum filter is present and in good order, 90% are not that i see about the place.

Plenum filter is between bonnet and windscreen. As previously mentioned most cars you look at will only have the remains of the disintegrated filter left.
If you read the following thread you will get all the info you need on replacement. I would highly recommend getting the stuff I did as its much thicker then standard and after 2 1/2 years still looks fresh.
