Hi all. Just checked my harness and there is oil dripping out of it, at the ECU:o. I'm assuming Land Rover built this into the vehicle to stop the wires from corroding! Good thinking. OK, what am i up for? New harness. The car is driving OK, a bit down on power up hills. Should I stop driving it? Would there be oil in the ECU? Should I buy a Nissan (Just joking!!!). I haven't checked the ECU for 12 months. It's a 2001 Deefer. What do I need to do (other than sell a kidney?)? Thanks in advance.

easy fix!
you will need a new Injector Wiring Harness.
shouldn't set you back too much.

here is a thread on how to do the job - SNIP! (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-chatter/117692-how-replace-injector-wiring-loom-td5-engine.html)

Didn't know about the problem when I bought my td5 defender...
when I first checked it I was amazed at how much oil was in the box under the drives seat!
the previous owner had put a rag in there to soak up the oil and somewhere along the line the cables from the Injector harness had had the outer insulation scored to let the oil out before it got to the ecu...

so the injector harness had properly been leaking for years!

all fixed now though :D

Ha man I have a 01 td5 130. I had the same thing I bought another injector harness, this one is under the rocker cover. I also used electrical cleaner in a spray can and flushed and sprayed the lines and connectors. I also removed the orange O ring at the ECU, I read that this will allow the oil to drip out and not build up at the connectors.

Should I change my injector seals / washers while I'm in there, or don't touch if it isn't broke? I have to change the rocker cover gasket anyway. It's leaking oil everywhere. Strange, a Land Rover leaking oil???;)

No let sleeping dogs alone
If your oil level is growing then yes if not leave it alone

The oil level is actually dropping (more than it leaks oil!!!!:p) but doesn't seem to be blowing smoke??? She has done 220k. I'll leave the seals alone for now. Does anyone know if oil in the harness effects performance? She hates hills at the moment.

Cheers,

Jono

yeah quite a few problems can arise from oil reaching the ecu plug.

have a look
HERE (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/good-oil/27131-td5-oil-harness.html)
many many threads on the old oil in the wiring thing.

some experience a misfire, others have other strange things happen.

I would fix the injector loom first before chasing other causes for the power loss anyway.
