HP Desktop with Vista - Should I just blow it up?

Just seen this part of the forum and have a really curly question

My computer is an HP s3460a desktop running Vista (OK, not really running).
It froze (no surprise) so i had to switch it off and on again.
It did not power up, there are no beeps, however the lights come on and the fan spins.

I've tried:
reinserting the ram
connecting to a different monitor
resetting the CMOS
Praying

I have never had much luck with HP, and I'm guessing it could be the power supply? Can anyone help?

If the lghts and fan are coming on, the power supply is OK.
I suspect the hard disc has died. Have you tried booting with a recovery disc?
Have you removed the battery completely,waited , then reinserted it, without being plugged into the charger.

It sounds as if it the BIOS doesn't pass the POST (power On Startup Test). That means get a new 1

yes, removed battery, also reset jumper on motherboard for CMOS: nothing

Don't think it's the hard disk as there is no power-up beyond lights and fans spinning

Depends on the motherboard and weather you can access the bios, I am shuming you can as you can reset the CMOS,

After rereading your original post which fan comes on, is it the power supply fan or both the computer fan and power fan power should be ok. It does not sound like power failure of the computer would have shut down and not just frozen

When I googled your model, support pages were not available for that model so it may be discontinued.

At the cost of computers these days, especially if you can build your own (if you can reinstall ram you have the skills, it is that easy these days) they are so cheap it may not be worth trying to fix

got a multimeter?

try the voltages on a 4pin molex plug

if below 12v or 5v you need another power supply generally speaking

lights and fans working is no indication unfortunately...
