Hi All,
I'm planning on replacing the factory head unit and would like to find a wiring harness rather than cut the plugs off. Does anyone know where I can get one? I would prefer to buy from Aus if possible and LR to Sony would be a bonus!
Thanks in advance! :)

Specialist item you need to get from O/S. I got mine from UK can't remember where now. Google is your fiend. :D

I'd be interested to know what unit you're intending to replace it with. Bloke who bought my D3 planned to do the same thing but I never heard how that worked out.

Low line is easy to replace. If you replace the high line one you will lose some sterring wheel menu functionality.
Some have rewired the OEM head unit to behind the side panel in the boot to keep functionality (and clock) and put in new head unit and amp.

Presto are you talking about a D3 or D4?
As his original post indicates he drives a D3 I would assume it is a D3

Yes, sorry should have made that clear, it is for a D3 SE (not premium sound).
I'm planning on installing one of these: XAV-701BT : Mobile Display : Xplod™ In Car Visuals : Sony Australia (http://www.sony.com.au/product/xav-701bt) which is ordered waiting delivery.
The std stereo has been tripping out once a week for some time. I have to pull it out and leave it unplugged for 10 seconds to reset it. It seems I only lose the clock whilst it's tripped, with no other functionality affected!? ....but having said that, I'm not sure I've checked with the unit completely unplugged.
I've bought one of these: ($69) Aerpro FP8090 Landrover Facia - FP8090 (http://www.soundmaster.com.au/Aerpro-FP8090-Landrover-Facia/FP8090/) to get a nice fit, so just need the harness to start playing! :)

Presto - I assume your standard system is the 6 stacker version with steering wheel controls?
If so when you replace your radio you will loose the clock option in the dash car computer display. You will need to ensure that the steering wheel controls will work with the radio but you also need the steering wheel controls to change settings in the dash computer display and these work through the original radio as the clock does. Not such an issue it you have the computer set up as you want but will cause issues if you want to change things later.
As some mentioned leaving the original radio still connected but stored in the back or under a seat stills allows this functionality. If I was going to do this on my car I would set up a socket system so the old radio could be plugged in somewhere to make adjustments to the cars systems.

Hi Garry,
Thanks for the info.
The Std Stereo is the poverty spec, so no stacker and no steering controls. I'm thinking of just living without the clock, although I can't help but wonder about the rocket science involved to use a random digital clock!? Where are all the rocket scientists when you need them!?
The Head Unit has arrived, and the outer mounting frame is too big for the plastic facia! ....not sure if I just trim it to fit!? One of the guys from our club has been through something similar, so I'll ask him to comment!
More info coming soon hopefully!

Hey Presto,
Finally managed to find the email from the mob I bought my facia kit and wiring harness off - Nexxia Audio Solutions.
I got a PC2-81-4, Jaguar Harness adaptor (http://www.nexxia.co.uk/product.asp's=Car%20Audio&c=Car%20Stereo%20Fitting%20Kits&product_code=PC2-81-4) for 4.30 GBP back in 2009 along with a DFPK-29-02, Range Rover Sport (http://www.nexxia.co.uk/product.asp's=&c=&product_code=DFPK-29-02) for 33.87 GBP.
From memory I cut the non-lr plug off the harness and soldered it up to the cable that came with my Pioneer head-deck. You also need a converter for your antenna cable or do what I did and don't bother.

Thanks Dave! :)
Looks like I'll have to grab that facia, as mine would need too much trimming. It seems it's only for single DIN head units! I wrongly assumed the "Double DIN with pocket" meant the pocket was optional - clearly not! :(

I think mine came with a pocket or I had one spare that slotted underneath my single din radio.

I must when I looked at you link to the facia I thought it was a single din with pocket but on reading it I took it to mean it was either and to turn it to a double din the pocket just popped out.
Not a good description then.

The pocket just pops out leaving me with what I thought is a double DIN facia, but there seems to be extra ribs for the pocket that get in the way when trying to fit the double DIN cage! :(

I trimmed mine to fit a double din when I went from a single din but also needed to buy a cage, would have been easier to buy a new double din facia kit.

I'm going to grab those two products from Dave's links above, and one of these for the antenna:
Buy Fakra to Din Car Radio Antenna Adaptor (http://www.nexxia.co.uk/product.asp's=&c=&product_code=PC5-100)
Anyone know what the second connector on the back of the std head unit is? My guess is it's for steering controls, as I've tested without that plug in (just the larger one connected) and it functions normally (I don't have the steering controls).

Thanks Garry, but I've just ordered them from the other place!
Interestingly, the facia that ebay store has listed looks the same as the one I have here! I wonder whether this other one will be the same when it gets here!?

This one is exactly the same as the facia I have here already, and the Sony double DIN cage doesn't fit! :(
