I have two 1998 Defender 300 TDi's to choose from as a long overdue replacement for my Puma110.

One option is a 110 from a very reputable workshop that have rebuilt the motor and is completely mechanically sound. It was always maintained by them when owned by a farmer who then passed it on to his Farm Workers who drove the motor into the ground. This vehicle has unfortunately no overland extras other than a ½ roof rack. Mileage is 268 000 km’s but the motor is basically new with also a new Injector pump and Turbo.

The second option is also a 1998 110 TDi with 213 000 km’s – only one owner and FSH.
New tires and every imaginable camping accessory included for same price.

Hang on a sec... a Puma (>2007) is knackered and needs to be replaced by a 300tdi??? WOW, although it would not surprise me that a tdi would run rings around a Puma in mileage.

I'd have the blue one, even if the motor in the white one is mint, farmers run the rest of them into the ground and i would know!! After all it does not cost very much to rebuild a tdi and you should get plenty of mileage out of it yet.

Just my $0.02

Cheers
Will

Puma was sold due to many failures under warrenty and a small incident where I travelled 3000km's with poorly refitted filter cover on dirt roads[bigwhistle]

But thanks, I might take your advise and go for the Blue One

Sorry to hear about your Puma experiences CapeLandy but glad to hear you're switching to a 300Tdi which makes me think I'll keep mine (can't afford anything else anyway) :)

Even though the blue one looks a bit scruffier it's the one I'd choose :)

One owner, full history, low kilometers and lots of camping gear. It's just waiting to be taken on an adventure ;)

With only the info you've given us.

I'd take the blue one, When a vehicle is driven into the ground its not just the engine that cops hell (as per the case of the white one). I even like the colour more than the white one.

Is the blue one really a County?
They were never sold in Aus, AFAIK.

It does look like a private import to me , Not that it matters unless it has rust:cool:

Thanks Chaps - I am in South Africa so may explain why you can't match the signage to your local models in Auz.
Have to wait until Monday now to check out the Blue one as the weather is too poor for owner to drive into town.:(

Just heard some more good news, the single owner is selling due to him emmigrating hence reason for sale and aparently a more senior bloke (60+) so I am sure he must have nursed it.
Left it with his missus to sell via a friend working at a small town dealer, so I'm going Saturday PM to have a closer squizz.
Heart is racing now as I am pining for my overland trips in a deefer which I haven't done for two years now since flogging the Puma
