Hi,
I swapped my rear puma diff housing for the disco one. Just remember that the spring perches are about 1/2" further apart on the Defender housing.
Cheers, Tristan

Only on the rear, the front should be identical.
IIRC the panhard rod changed about '02 and I think may use a larger bolt but don't know if it's on the diff end ?
Not sure on that though, but the panhard did change.

I hope it does, I've just bought a donor Disco1 to put the running gear under a County chassis. I understand the Disco rear axle has a lighter load rating than the Salisbury and P38 type Defender rear axle.

Simon, you'll just have to change the rear spring perches, otherwise it should bolt up ?
I forgot, the discs and callipers are different on the Disco front and back too.
IIRC the Defender uses larger bore pistons in the calipers and the discs are vented on the front (the vented discs only applies from I think the 200Tdi on)

Excellent, thanks Rick. My thoughts were to swap the rear perches over and run Disco rear springs - more options to soften it up with that diameter.

I'm pretty certain my '95 Disco 300TDI doesn't have vented discs on the front. They are solid, same as the back. '95 is obviously early for the 300TDI, so maybe soon after that they changed...

Pretty sure DI's had solid discs all the way through, as did all the eighties 110/120's.

Upon reading your post again, I realise you said Defender, not Disco. We agree on every point. Carry on, as you were! :D

Are the pinion lengths on the d1 diff and p38 the same length? i thought the rover style centre was longer and would require the tailshaft length changed?
