Hi guys,

I stated expert, but maybe not really. I have an old 1987 county/defender that was originally an import from Germany. It is RHD and in decent shape. However, it runs LHD wipers and I want to switch them to RHD obviously.
I have ordered some RHD arms, but do the spindles and the wiper motor and cabling need to be changed? I am assuming it wouldn't be too hard a change as Defenders are what they are.

Any advice would be great.

Cheers.

After a quick look at mine, it looks as if you will need to swap the wiper positions to the locations where there is a black plug in your picture. Since the motor is on the left, and you are moving the wipers to the right, you will need to get a longer rack cable and outer pipe. Probably best from a wrecker.

You will need to disassemble a fair bit of the dash to get at them. The wheel boxes will be the same.

Hi John,

Cheers for that. Would it be easier to relocate the wiper motor to the right if that where the RHD sits? Or will a cable be easy enough to source?

Wiper motor is in the same place for LHD and RHD. You may have problems sourcing the cable new, as they rarely need replacing, but there must be any number of dead Defenders/110s about - same system as used for Series 2a/3, but they had the wipers in a different location, so lengths will be wrong.

Ah ok no probs. I have just ordered a cut to fit one from RimmerBros in the UK. I'm just trying to sort out all parts before removing the dash.

Another thing to consider is,that you may require a new park switch,so that they park to the left and not the right.

It goes on and on! So what is this park switch?

Found it, disregard! I have ordered a new motor anyway, so I am assuming that the park switch of the new one will be fine.

I now have, new motor, new rack cable, new spindles. So hopefully that should cover everything. Missing anything?

Sounds about all you will need to me.apart from a little bit of time.
You should be able to change the motor and cables in under 1/2 Hr.I did mine in about 20 minutes:D

Hi guys,

Ok so got everything stripped off and fitted up, but have a problem..... New motor new everything, and it still wants to turn the incorrect way. So it wants the wipers to start in the upright position.

Have I missed something very simple here or do I need to change something somewhere else? I have a new motor from the UK, so am assuming the white box on it is the new park switch? Do I need to change the colour sequence that plugs into or out of it?

Urgent help is required due to me having the dash off. Thanks guys.

you need to dis assemble flip and then reassemble the wiper drive boxes.

I thought about that, but it means it will run the cable too low and it will foul the vent openers. You mean the spindles right?

If I was able to do that, I think the problem would be solved. Unless there is no other option I am guessing this will need to be the go. But looking at install and fitments online, my spindles are facing the same way, so I didn't think there would be a problem?

That was the one I was looking at.
