Changed the fuel filter today. Ran it :)

Ummmmm Duh! Couple of hours later heading for appointment. Started and stopped a couple of seconds later. The Duh moment is going to the manual and finding that one needs to prime with an external pump :( ie outboard hand bulb.

Next Duh! moment is that I threw one of those and the hoses out the other week! Tick for local dealer. Someone came round with the requisite priming bulb.

So - Trap for young players, used to electric pumps, and mechanical lifter - Pumas need to have an external pump following "no fuel in lines"; filter or "oops ran out".

Will probably fit a bulb and leave it there.

Apparently they don't mate a few people on here have drained the lines bundaleen I believe just filled up the fuel filter and I think from memory put a small amount of positive pressure in the fuel tank and away it went.

I've had no dramas on my pumas filling the filter to the brim and it has always fired, different story if it runs dry and stops!

That is exactly how its done, works every time :D

I disconnected my breather at the tank and put nylon tube up to the engine bay then refitted the breather valve. Just a little air in there and the valve will keep the pressure in the tank then loosen the fuel fittings on the filter or at the engine and all will be fine. Just a little air is all it takes.

We have the bellows type suction unit which I couldn't get to draw fuel from the tank. We disconnect the fuel line and allow it to drain into a jar and pressurise the tank. In our case this is simple as we have a breather block on the firewall of the engine bay.

Pressurising the tank locally not a problem. might have to make up an adaptor to fit tyre pump.

Having to change a filter in the boonies might not be good karma :(
