Well thought would share my other pride and joy. A car I have owned for about 11 years now. Given its been off the road for 5 of those off and on. currently under going resto and engine number 5. Which is an LS1 motor as I got sick of the last few carby motors. Have all the necessary bits n bobs now for the conversion, well other than new guages. Engine is currently out. I took the front end off the other week. Just with my disabilties getting new engine in is one bit I cannot do on my own.
Enjoy the piccies anyways.

'Q with HZ front? looks way better that way imo.

I have no pics to remember my WB ute. It was a 1983 (rectangular lamps)chassis up resto, Light yellow, Kingswood trim, Factory Steel 6" rims and plastic centre caps, 308 TH400, (Like your running gear in the pic, but a th400 not 350) but had ALL the original engine bay stuff like warning stickers, ie fan shroud warning etc etc, 5 litre sticker on factory original airfilter lid, looked like a factory instal with bonnet up :). mild trans shift kit, 3.08 lsd, power steer, woodgrain facia gts dash, column shift and new bench seat, new carpets, 2.5" single system shaped to factory original routing including tailpipe. looked stocker but a nice 'sleeper'.

sigh.

won't find another like it now.

good luck and enjoy the project:) progress pics would be great with the ls1 conversion, post away! never get bored of build up stories:D

wow yours would have sounded awesome and gone like a rocket!!

and yeah old girl has a HZ front. I bought it like that. Want to put a Q front back on it, but in 2 minds as I do like it how it is. But then they are nice when all HQ, which there are not too many getting around these days.
there is a lot of blood, sweat and tears in this car already, but enjoying every minute of it :) I face a lot of challenges. But will get there, just a bit slower than would have before. I miss driving it so bad LOL. Disco and golf keep me happy though. I will definately keep this thread active with progress piccies :)

Statesman front end looks great ... very popular conversion in it's day :)

Of all the PV's ... The CL Valiant with the 318 /T bar / bucket seats was my favourite to own

Post more progress pics as it happens :D

HZ Premier / GTS front are quite good looking, esp with the GTS bib spoiler.... I harboured a great desire for an HZ GTS 4 door 5 litre 4 spd in Yellow with Blackouts, but the WB was as close as I got. The ute went well, saw a fair bit of 'work' too, (The circular kind:D) never abused though, just loved that exhaust note at 4000rpm through the 2.5" single:cool:.

Seeing threads like this reminds me of when I was building up my XY gt, dam I miss the old girl, but sure as hell don't miss the fuel bill, she had a 120l stainless drop tank and if I put my foot down could skull the tank dry in under 200km or even less if I was really givin her some curry

I bet it was worth the fuel usage going for a good drive like that :D Sounds like my boat though, has a big tank like that, and fuel does not last long at all. is a 454 though, and always foot down towing skiiers around. XY would have been a nice car. Something about the old ones, they have a character and feel a lot of new cars are missing these days. Almost like no 2 of them are the same in how they drive.

I do like the HZ premier/GTS fronts too. LOL yes the last thing i did in my panelvan was some circle work in one of hte paddocks. New it would be some time before drove it again so we went and had a blast. Like you, was never abused. haha dont actualyl think anyone could ever kill a 308 haha.

Valiants are nice too! i had a really, really nice 1 owner Valiant ute for a while. Epic barn find that was. just polished it up and was like had jsut rolled off show room floor. Unfortunately lost it to the ex years ago :( Not long after had it I wasnt able to drive manual anymore. (Worst thing to ever happen haha. really not an automatic fan but now i have no choice) Ill try find a pic of that old girl.

Lol yeah it was a blast, this was when fuel was only 85c/L too lol but 474rwkw was a lot of fun to try and control, especially off the lights when the front wheels were 30+ cm off the tar hahahaha

Good choice of motor, with the LS1 this will be a fun car to drive, they are an easy motor to squeeze lots of power out of without to much work. What did the motor come out of?

haha the untameable beast! would have been wild! haha my kind of car! they are good a little bit crazy! gosh i remember fuel being that price. Actually remember when my parents moved out here, fuel was only about 60c a litre. cant believe how much it is now.

thanks :) yeah i am super excited about the ls1 going in the pano. it came out of a VX senator with low kms so pretty happy to stumble upon it. I was going for an injected 5L but the ls1 came up and had to have it.

Had a '74 HQ ute for many years,in those days fuel was less than 20c a litre:eek:
Threw in a higher ratio diff and it used to wind off the speedo......

One of my nephews, FIL,had a panelvan under his house, has had it there for years.I checked it out recently,as he wants to get rid of it, and it is a genuine Sandman,HJ.Has been fitted with a 350,but otherwise is genuine.Has a bit of rust here and there, but actually not in bad nick...Even has the original wheels.

Seems everyone wants it........!;)

Anyway, the nephew is going to buy/take it.
Yesterday they had it checked out by a Sandman tragic that i know and it is definitely genuine, although the auto is also not original genuine. Can't remember what he said the auto was maybe 400 something.

I would have grabbed it myself a few years ago if it was available but i am past playing with cars:(

Although in my opinion only,i don't like the look of the HJ,much prefer the HZ.

One of my sons had a red manual '96 HSV clubby that was very low mileage with complete records including original purchase receipts, etc, etc.

He got rid of it and took/stole/paid a small amount, for my D2a.

I should have kept both the clubby and the D2a:angel:

Um pics,i will try.

The TH400 and 308 was an original fitment to HJ models, possible someone slotted in the chev as the TH400 has a chev bolt pattern and is an easy conversion. Possibly done due to the percieved lack of 'go' for the 308, truth be known they can go a LOT harder with the right cam and head work etc.

Sandman HZ ute is my all time favourite acquisition, maybe one day....:(

The HZ Sandman utes did look good, particularly as they had the GTS front from memory?Don't mind the 4 door Monaro with the honeycomb wheels either, can't remember if it was HX or HZ.

Had a HZ wagon yrs ago, when the kids were little, fantastic car, easy to fix:)

My all time favourite is the hatchback A9X.....one day(that means never):(

One of the other apprentices when i was also an apprentice, yes i know that was yrs ago,had one.Quite a few around in those days. There was actually a tent type awning that was made for the rear of them as well.

Sis in law's hubby has a HX Kingswood deluxe in the garage. Bought new at Mt Gambier. Was ordered by another customer, who (IIRC) had also optioned some extras, then failed to pick up.

253, with the 3spd auto. Gold with silver roof and cream interior. Just had its first change of brake pads a couple of years ago. Serviced every 5000km.
Half tempted to buy it off him, (gave up his licence, due to losing his legs) but the Kingswoods just never really grabbed me, although they are growing on me. The Fords of that era were much nicer IMHO.

got the engine bay part of the loom in and hooked up to trans!! so progressing slowly!
getting some help with some welding on the cross member, then i can put that in and have trans/motor sitting in exact spot. and got to see where loom sits along the extractor so i know where to put a hole through the firewall. pretty well decided the ecu is going to sit at hte front of the tunnel just tucked up below the dash and ill make a console to go over it. ill add pics later :)

have i not shared my impala on here yet? haha :O its a year next month that i have owned rosie the impala for!!! basically they have been a dream car of mine since i was rather small LOL. (cars always have been a massive part of family life) 67 4 door hardtop being my number 1. like on the supernatural tv show, which i why i watch that show, because has one of my dream cars in it! just the downside to that show has made them extremely hard to find!!! plenty of 2 doors around, which i am not as fond of as i think the 4 door hardtop has the perfect shape and balance! and a pillared sedan one just would not do LOL. i never ever thought id ever own one! she is named Rosie in honour of a wonderful friend who was like an aunty to me(treasured friend, my physio, my riding coach and fellow landrovian). Rosie the human used to intently look at every advertisement for one that came along. which was never frequent as they are so rare. promised me that one day one would come along and stars would align and all would fall into place (being now permanently disabled and unable to work and earn a decent wage i thought the ship had well sailed) Well Rosie sadly lost her battle with depression almost 2 years ago. And randomly, exactly a year later on the anniversary of her death, one came along. my sister found the advertisement. the stars aligned, my wonderful partner told me to not think and just do, a small amount of money had come our way seriously a few days prior. So on the first anniversary of Rosies death, along came my Impala, which had to be named Rosie in my dear friends honour. I am the first owner in australia, and she is in original condition fresh from nevada. So rubbers etc all brittle from harsh sun. Is a runner :) interior is a bit of a mess, exterior is just the original paint but i love it as the original paints tells the story of her life. she is straight and rust free!! Has taken the last year to collect the parts needed to begin the restoration, as being a single income home with my medical needs haha, finances get a bit tight. But have started slowly changing the seals, collected all needed suspension bushes, and servicing the engine. I was hoping to have her driving on the road already, so that I could use her while my landrover is getting its transmission fixed. she will have to me modified with my spinner knob and the indicator lever extended so it can be used with the left hand. I will also be painting the old girl myself. likely the last car i will ever paint as physically I just cannot do it. i have accepted the fact I will have to have someone else paint my precious panelvan as it is just too much car for me to manage and will be metallic paint, so i want the application to me perfectly even and done at the same time. the impala however will be simple, glossy, classy black. So literally will be painted one panel at a time! i will sit there in the wheel chair and do it if need be too. the interior will be red, not too much, and not to bright, but just the right shade to not be too much red! the quality of these cars still amazes me. they are just built so well. the bench seat even i can slide as it is just effortless. the big doors feel as light as a feather and shut ever so softly, everything fits so perfectly. it is just a beautiful car! i am super scared someone will steal rosie LOL. it would just break my heart if any of my cars were ever stolen, especially that one :( its not a car i could ever replace, and i still pinch myself every time i see it as it still doesnt feel real haha.
