    HQ Panelvan

Well thought would share my other pride and joy. A car I have owned for about 11 years now. Given its been off the road for 5 of those off and on. currently under going resto and engine number 5. Which is an LS1 motor as I got sick of the last few carby motors. Have all the necessary bits n bobs now for the conversion, well other than new guages. Engine is currently out. I took the front end off the other week. Just with my disabilties getting new engine in is one bit I cannot do on my own.
    Enjoy the piccies anyways.

'Q with HZ front? looks way better that way imo.

I have no pics to remember my WB ute. It was a 1983 (rectangular lamps)chassis up resto, Light yellow, Kingswood trim, Factory Steel 6" rims and plastic centre caps, 308 TH400, (Like your running gear in the pic, but a th400 not 350) but had ALL the original engine bay stuff like warning stickers, ie fan shroud warning etc etc, 5 litre sticker on factory original airfilter lid, looked like a factory instal with bonnet up . mild trans shift kit, 3.08 lsd, power steer, woodgrain facia gts dash, column shift and new bench seat, new carpets, 2.5" single system shaped to factory original routing including tailpipe. looked stocker but a nice 'sleeper'.

    sigh.

won't find another like it now.

good luck and enjoy the project progress pics would be great with the ls1 conversion, post away! never get bored of build up stories

wow yours would have sounded awesome and gone like a rocket!!

and yeah old girl has a HZ front. I bought it like that. Want to put a Q front back on it, but in 2 minds as I do like it how it is. But then they are nice when all HQ, which there are not too many getting around these days.
there is a lot of blood, sweat and tears in this car already, but enjoying every minute of it I face a lot of challenges. But will get there, just a bit slower than would have before. I miss driving it so bad LOL. Disco and golf keep me happy though. I will definately keep this thread active with progress piccies

Statesman front end looks great ... very popular conversion in it's day

Of all the PV's ... The CL Valiant with the 318 /T bar / bucket seats was my favourite to own

Post more progress pics as it happens

    Cheers

HZ Premier / GTS front are quite good looking, esp with the GTS bib spoiler.... I harboured a great desire for an HZ GTS 4 door 5 litre 4 spd in Yellow with Blackouts, but the WB was as close as I got. The ute went well, saw a fair bit of 'work' too, (The circular kind) never abused though, just loved that exhaust note at 4000rpm through the 2.5" single.

Seeing threads like this reminds me of when I was building up my XY gt, dam I miss the old girl, but sure as hell don't miss the fuel bill, she had a 120l stainless drop tank and if I put my foot down could skull the tank dry in under 200km or even less if I was really givin her some curry

I bet it was worth the fuel usage going for a good drive like that Sounds like my boat though, has a big tank like that, and fuel does not last long at all. is a 454 though, and always foot down towing skiiers around. XY would have been a nice car. Something about the old ones, they have a character and feel a lot of new cars are missing these days. Almost like no 2 of them are the same in how they drive.

I do like the HZ premier/GTS fronts too. LOL yes the last thing i did in my panelvan was some circle work in one of hte paddocks. New it would be some time before drove it again so we went and had a blast. Like you, was never abused. haha dont actualyl think anyone could ever kill a 308 haha.

Valiants are nice too! i had a really, really nice 1 owner Valiant ute for a while. Epic barn find that was. just polished it up and was like had jsut rolled off show room floor. Unfortunately lost it to the ex years ago Not long after had it I wasnt able to drive manual anymore. (Worst thing to ever happen haha. really not an automatic fan but now i have no choice) Ill try find a pic of that old girl.

Lol yeah it was a blast, this was when fuel was only 85c/L too lol but 474rwkw was a lot of fun to try and control, especially off the lights when the front wheels were 30+ cm off the tar hahahaha

Good choice of motor, with the LS1 this will be a fun car to drive, they are an easy motor to squeeze lots of power out of without to much work. What did the motor come out of?

haha the untameable beast! would have been wild! haha my kind of car! they are good a little bit crazy! gosh i remember fuel being that price. Actually remember when my parents moved out here, fuel was only about 60c a litre. cant believe how much it is now.

thanks yeah i am super excited about the ls1 going in the pano. it came out of a VX senator with low kms so pretty happy to stumble upon it. I was going for an injected 5L but the ls1 came up and had to have it.
