View Full Version : Series to the Core

Due to some recent circumstances, working 7 days a week, my current commuter to Loganholme and back each day is my trusty series 3.

Recently the canvas roof died. Anyone else out there driving around in cyclonic conditions, in a series land rover with no roof, no wipers and no brakes, armed only with a drizabone riding coat and a pith helmet.

Ironic thing is, it is probably the driest I have ever been in any land rover ever:D

Pouring rain again, so here are some happy snaps from when I got home this afternoon.

Windscreen wipers now work, though only when you switch the heater on:D

Do the boots fill up with water?

Do the boots fill up with water?

The coat covers the tops of the boots, so no, but they do stop the water from the land rover right foot drip syndrome.

In reality, above 50kph, you don't get wet at all, even in the heaviest of heavy downpours. You get more from the road spray sucked up from the back of the vehicle.

This months free tip:

Pith helmets are the bomb for all-weather land rover travel. Buy yours today.

How do you wear shoes and drive a Series land rover? The pedals are too close to the seat for that! better yet, how do you wear GUM BOOTS and drive a Series? :D

Left leg clutch, right leg throttle, middle leg brake:p

I am the traditional height of your average 1950's male. I also sing sea shanties while driving back home to my fishing village by the bay, so between wallowing around in animal blood all day, chasing cows in sodden paddocks, fishing boats and yachts, gumboots are second nature it would seem. I have at least 3 different pair:D

ahhh that must be my problem.... either I'm not traditional height OR maybe my Series got wet and shrunk... '

How do you keep it stuck on your melon? Mine just blows off, but then again it is not a good fit.

Cheers, Mick.

Hello Col.

I see that you have the personalised number plate for an FFR manufactured in 1978 all sewn up! Oh well that will give me time to think of something for my Series 3 FFR - (1978) when sometime in the future it becomes registration day!

Are you still driving sans soft top since we could be in for some more wet weather?

Kind Regards
Lionel

Lionel, how about 53 FFR? It is almost how you wrote it, (substitute the Series for a 5).

Cheers,
Mick.

Lionel,

Mick's suggestion is a good one - the Ho Hars did this small substitution on their (from memory) 80" and it is genuinely hard to pick the 5 from the S in 5ERIES with the particular font that is used on the plates.

You can actually go on line and mock up a plate and get a sense of what it will look like.

Cheers,

Neil

Correct, the number plate reads 801 NCH. Without the gap/diamond in the middle it is 801NCH

Hooning around in the Stage 1 at the moment. Fits more football gear, and uses half the fuel of the series 111.

Dear everyone, yes I am alive, I now remember where my Nanocom is :D and I hope to have a free second come September/October.

Keen on going back to Coolah too, depending when it is.
