Well i went to open the car yesterday ( i use the key as i disabled the remote locking and immobilizer) and i had to use mild force to get the lock up as it was no longer power assisted. hmm then when i turned the key to on it beeps at me and the m and s lights flash and the oil and battery lights stay on and the digital display which show the gear selected next to the odometer flashes and the car wont turn over. the battery is only four months old and i tried charging that. seem ok and the lights turn on. anyone had a similar problem. i haven't ever had a transmission problem or any problems selecting gears and the transmission was serviced when i changed the battery 4 months ago. mentioned this as i read that the m and s lights refer to a transmission problem. any help would be much appreciated.

thanks
simon

I would say your battery is the issue, get it load tested to determine its condition

As it is not very old a replacement would be covered under warranty

Wouldn't be the first new battery to fail early.

Just had one in the wife "summer car" (soft top Vitara)... Fail... 6 weeks old.

Get the codes read, that will give you some idea

Check battery cable and earth points

As stated I'd check all the leeds from the terminals to the mounting points.
Is the alternator charging the system and the wires tight on the back of it?

M&S lights flashing can indicate low battery voltage so it may not be transmition related.

Are there any accesories fitted that can drain the battery(fridge, winch, radios)?

Cheers, Kyle.

I had this happen to me yesterday. Turn the ignition, and got the Click, click but not a peep out of the starter, lights on the dash dimmed, m&s started flashing. Batteries both at 12.5V unloaded.

Got under the d2 pulled the Lucar connector off the starter solenoid, and pushed back on. Gave the end of the solenoid a tap with a spanner. Started straight away after that. Solenoid is slated for a rebuild, but will be checking all connections too.

Cheers

Problem resolved it was the battery even though the racq test said it was ok

Yep the battery may be buggered, but not being very old is it a dodgy battery or something else draining the battery? I would also get the power drain checked with a clamp meter.
