View Full Version : Interior Lights/Open Door alarm

I am seeking advice regarding the interior lights. Tonight, no lights when I
unlocked and opened door.
Relocked & unlocked a number of times, opening door on each occassion, same result - no automatic switching on off interior light.
Lights turn on with switch, headlights illuminate when lock button held down, so appears BCU functioning.
Suggestions?

If you have the interior light left on and don't lock the doors they go into some sort of sleep mode. It clears when you start the car with the key. I spent ages looking over mine to try and work out why it was not working then after a drive all good.

yep... ditto Landover
if you leave a door/s open for an extended time the BCU will kill the lights after 8 minutes to prevent discharge of the battery. Close doors and start vehicle to reset.

Occasionally mine will throw up a transmission fault when this happens
The M & S warning lights illuminate. They won't go off with a restart, and require the Hawkeye to clear them. The fault is for a "CAN timeout - historical",
Usually the aforementioned start-up sorts it out.
and people wonder why some don't trust cars with electrickery.

Thanks for the suggestions the last time I posted this query. All previous suggestions/recommendations acted upon without success.
I have looked at all fuses, connections etc., disconnected & reconnected battery with a 15 min interval, however still no interior light upon opening door. In checking I have also noted that the Door Open Alarm is no longer sounding.
Still seeking to rectify problem.
All (reasonable) suggestions will be considered and acted upon & effectiveness reported in this forum.
Thanks

D2 RESET
1) With key in the ignition, motor and ignition in the off postion
2) open drivers door
3) remove key wait 10sec
4) insert key
5) close drivers door
6) start car
Found this. Done it?
Cheers

Al, reviewing posts re lights I note your address is Coogee, a little too far from Sunbury.
I must have got you confused with another member.
Apologies

Do the lights come on if you open a passenger door?
And what is this open door alarm of which you speak? Do you mean the lights on reminder when you open the driver door? If so, it sounds like the drivers door latch switch is stuck open. It's normally open when the door is shut and closes when the door is opened.

I'm currently trying to establish which door is not closing (electronically) with mine and in the meantime every time I lock the car the horn beeps (door open alarm) and the interior lights stay. The lights stay on for 15 to 20 mins and then some timer kicks in a turns them off. The next time I go to the car and unlock it the lights don't work. Start the car and they are reset so that when they car stops and I get out the lights come back on until the next time out.
I am wondering if your lights have timed out and somehow can't be reset or your drivers door is always registering as shut? You would need to start and stop the engine and then test one of the other doors before the timeout kicks in.
Hope that makes sense

sorry different post
You replied no change?
But now It does?
Try unplugging the front doors via the foot well side kick panels (2 screws) to isolate the suspect door, not sure about the rear doors plugs

I reiterate Offtrack's question. Does the interior light come on when you open a passenger door? If so, it might simply be the rubber boot around the driver's door switch is compressed and stiff and not allowing the switch to close circuit when you open the door. If not, then it sounds like a bigger problem.

You just half answered a question I had on another post about how do you isolate which door switch is faulty.
Thanks:D

No, lights do not come on when any door is opened. Drivers, passengers or tailgate.
All lights turn on manually.
Door open alarm - alarm that sounds when engine started with a door not properly closed.

The D2 has an alarm that sounds when you open the drivers door with the key in the ignition. Strictly speaking it's the "Key in warning" as it's designed to remind you to take the key out.
Regardless that means that the there is a fault somewhere between the BCU and Drivers Door open switch at very least. I'd start with the drivers door switch and work back from there.
RAVE is a bit confusing as the diagram uses C0733 for both drivers and passenger side door looms, yet the description talks about another connector altogether
Anyway what you are looking for is the black wire on pin 2, and PW (purple with white trace) on pin 1 of C0733. You need to check that you have a closed circuit with the door open, and an open circuit with the door closed. If you get closed circuit regardless of the state you know the problem lies between C0733 and the door switch, most likely in the door switch itself.

Input/Output
The input from the door latch switches to the BCU is either zero volts or an open circuit. Zero volts indicates the door
is open. An open circuit indicates that the door is closed. When the BCU sees an open circuit, it pulls the input high
internally.
The driver's door latch switch has a dedicated signal input to the BCU. This allows the BCU to identify the driver's
door position.
The BCU use a common signal input for the remaining door latch switches.
cheers
Paul
