Hi, I have a new project thats missing an engine. I'm thinking of adding a series 3 engine and gearbox to get the thing rolling. Has anyone done this and any problems with having to make changes to the metalwork?
cheers Toby

Haven't done it but it is a common engine swap - main "problem" is that the bell housing needs to be swapped for a Series 2/2a/3 one (or Series 1 diesel), as they are different. Possibly easier to fit a 2/2a gearbox. Series 3 gearbox/bell housing will fit, but the S3 bell housing has hydraulic clutch operation, which is probably a complication you don't want (2/2a clutch is hydraulic, but the slave cylinder is external, added to a release mechanism identical to S1).
The engine should fit without metalwork changes - the 109 vs 107 was to fit the diesel, which is basically the same engine as you want to fit.
