Haven't done it but it is a common engine swap - main "problem" is that the bell housing needs to be swapped for a Series 2/2a/3 one (or Series 1 diesel), as they are different. Possibly easier to fit a 2/2a gearbox. Series 3 gearbox/bell housing will fit, but the S3 bell housing has hydraulic clutch operation, which is probably a complication you don't want (2/2a clutch is hydraulic, but the slave cylinder is external, added to a release mechanism identical to S1).
The engine should fit without metalwork changes - the 109 vs 107 was to fit the diesel, which is basically the same engine as you want to fit.
